SOURCE: 1989 tOYOTA CRESSIDA sAPRK PLUGS WELLS. OIL IN THE SPARK WELL

The 7MGE has 2 separate valve covers/gaskets with 8 screws holding each cover that will loosen over time.
Find the phillips screws holding on the covers and retighten snugly by hand do not overtighten!
Pull plug boots/wires by the boot not the wire and use paper towels or rags on a long screwdriver etc to absorb the oil from the wells.
Carefully clean plug boots with spray brake cleaner (avoid spraying anything but the boot) and let dry.
Apply 100% silicone grease to inner boot before reinstalling to allow future removal without damage.
If your engine is particularly dirty you may need to remove the covers first and clean all mating surfaces then reinstall.

SOURCE: where is the temperature switch located on 1988

if you are looking for the engine temp switch(sending unit, it is located on the engine next to the large coolant hose (the hose that is not attached to the pump) on the engine. Just a little above and to the passenger side of the vehicle

My 1988 Cressida Car consumes a huge amount of fuel..Is there any method to reduce fuel consumption?

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Toyota1988.shtml

The '88 Cressida should get about 15 to 20 mpg (about 13-14 L/100KM).

Make certain that the air cleaner is clean. The spark plugs must be clean and properly gapped.

Have the engine checked by a mechanic.

Don't let the car idle excessively.

When driving (especially accelerating), imagine that there is a raw egg (in the shell) between your foot and the accelerator pedal and try not to crush the imaginary egg.

Avoid speeding. Most cars' peak fuel efficiency is between 35 m.p.h. and 55 m.p.h. (55 kph to 90 kph)

Good luck from Detroit, MI, USA.

My 1988 toyota cressida has funny idle. it goes high low high low. it also started using a lot of gas recently how come.

Clean the IAC (idle air controle) located at the throttle body with brake clean, remove the intake duct, there is a cut out that allows air to pass to mix with the fuel inside the trottle body (about an inch or two beyond the lip), it's either stuck (most cases) or gone bad, if you disconnect the electrical plug it should stop the erratic idle, but you have to plug it back in. I spay wd-40 in the same orfice to lubercate the IAC

I have a 1988 toyota van le cargo 2.2 engine

Try spraying starting fluid into the intake of the air cleaner while someone else starts the car. Continue spraying the starting fluid for about 15-20 seconds. If the car starts, more than likely your fuel pump is bad. Check your fuses, and make sure you are getting power to the fuel pump. [email protected]
