I have a 2005 impala I bought new. a couple years ago I started noticing the transmission slipping when starting from a stop . After that it seems to be ok. flex plate was replaced about 3 years ago due to a crack in it. I only have 59,000 mile on it and the problem is getting worse. Also the traction control light has been coming on periodically for a long time and is now coming on all the time.

your overdrive clutch hub has gone out/worn out.
It can be replaced or you could have the whole transmission re-built or replaced with a low mileage one from the salvage yard , etc at a lower cost..(which is what I did)
This is common on these trannys.

You'll need to have the codes read from the computer. You will have a code that indicates one of the front wheel sensors is bad. This could be the case, but they are very expensive as they are built into the wheel bearing assemblies. It is more likely that the wiring harness between the frame and the part of the front spindle that holds the harness, has broken internally. It is a very common problem and can be repaired with a new wiring harness section or by tracking down the fault and repairing it.
