Hi Alex, The ignition assembly is mounted onto the steering column with blind bolts. These are special bolts designed in such a way that the heads break off when tightened to the correct torque. We usually remove them with a cold chisel and hammer. An alternative is to cut a slot into which a screw driver can be fitted. Regards John

SOURCE: opel astra 95 nz motor, camshaft broke after replacing it 5month ago while driving the car

it broke for reason
it is not bad luck now. 2 gone. do we want 3?
my guess (wild) i dont have these engines here, so pure mech, 101.
this is an interference engine?, and it was timed wrong and the valves
hit the piston tops. (it be clear as day , looking there, huh>)?)
evidence, I look first then wonder did you look , this time.?
post exact engines for far better answers.
if set the cam timing wrong, BOOM. on many engines.
like hondas love to do.

here is the list , WHICH ENGINE please
1.4 L I4 8V and 16V
1.6 L I4 8V and 16V
1.8 L I4 8V and 16V
2.0 L I4 8V and 16V
2.0 L I4 16V Turbo
1.7 L I4 8V Diesel
see the engine codes here, HUGE list, we cant guess this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Astra

as you can see NZ is just the suffix of a name.
we need the whole name.

How to fix 1992 Dodge Spirit Ignition problem when cylinder comes out or locks up

you can go to the junk yard and get another barrel assembly , but you run the risk that you will have top reprogram the immobilizer
It may be cheaper to get a locksmith involved to fit a new barrel keyed to your existing key and that way the expense of programming the key to the immobilizer is avoided

If i replace the ignition switch in a 2002 buick regal do the keys have to be reprogramed

normally only if you replace the cylinder barrel
the immobilizer section is at the end of the barrel normally under the trim and the switch is a separate unit to the barrel

Key broke in barrel needs barrel out with the broken key 2004 freelander

remove the cover round your ignition you need a torch to see a slot in your lock push a small flat head screwdriver in the slot but you need to be able to then lift out the cylinder. you would normally do that with your key in the barrel.

How to remove ignition cylinder without key

Hi MCC, You will need to remove the plastic cowling from around the steering column by removing the screws from its underside. Tilt the steering wheel down (if fitted with adjustment) and remove the cowling covers. Disconnect the electrical sockets and then with a cold chisel knock out the four blind bolts. Once the blind bolts are removed the switch and barrel will be easy to remove, unless the lock has activated, in which case a little force may be required to remove the release the locking tongue. However if you can get a good locksmith, who knows the job, a replacement key can be made without removing the barrel. Regards and happy new year, John

Key ignition switch needs replaced lock cylinder how do i change key broke off inside damaged needs replaced wires broke off behind key switch

disconnect the battery and pull the air bag fuse out to diable the air bag. Remove the steering coulmb trim covers and expose the lock cylinder. If the lock cylinder can be turned and is functional then push in the bottom tab and turn the lock cylinder then pull the whole cylinder out. If the keys broke inside and the lock cylinder is not functional the bottom tab will need to be drilled out.

I think you have a bad ignition switch, not the ignition lock cylinder. they are 2 different things.

  1. Connect electrical connector to ignition switch.
  1. Connect battery ground cable. Check ignition switch for proper function, including START and ACC positions. Also, make certain that the column is in the LOCK position.
