It started out with the rmps dropping to zero than kicking back in and continuing to drive. Now it still does that but now it will sometimes shut off completely and I have to pull over and start it up again.

oil pressure drops when rpm's drop to .well..zero...so no... oil pressure is a result not a cause likely....did you overheat it ? drive it to 107mph and have the rev limiter kick in? does it start and run now ?
