Sputtering then stopped running and wont turn over.

Is the truck really running or is it spitting and sputtering when turned off? The spitting and sputtering is called run on and is caused by carbon build up in the cylinders. With these older engines, they still have carburetors and will still provide gas to the engine if it's "running on" even with the ignition in the off position. Get some sea foam and foam the engine as the directions say. It will help remove some carbon deposits.

Try spark plugs.

its your idyll. You need to turn up the gas flow to the fuel injection or the carburetor.

Turn the ignition switch to run, without starting it. You should hear the electric fuel pump, in the gas tank, run for about 3 to 4 seconds, until it builds to proper pressure. If it is not humming along it needs replaced.

Check the plugs and see if they have fuel on them if not check the catalytic converter it could be plugged and putting back pressure on the engine and not allowing the fuel into the cylinders. Can you spray fuel into the throttle body and get it to run. If so you may have a fuel pump problem or fuel filter issue. I am betting on the cat. you can pull the o2 sensor ahead of the cat and the engine should run if it is plugged. It will run rough but at least it should start.

I am having the same exact issue right now with my 01 Alero. Been having electrical issues with lights coming on and off. ABS was kicking on a few times even. It started sputtering like it was running out of gas, thought that might have been the case. But after I put gas in it it still didn't start. Now it turns over but nothing. What ended up being wrong with yours?

it sounds like ou may have a weak fuel pump. if all it does is sputter then its starved for fuel. you might also check for water in the tank if theres enough water built up it wont run right
