You may have a faulty torque converter and it is loading down the engine to much to keep enough rpms to stay running or it could be and issue with the engine. more info is required. RPMs in park, does it do it if you use the throttle while shifting to drive, does it do it in reverse as well?

SOURCE: Car won't shift from park

Hey, my car does the same thing, so I stopped using park. To park I would put the car in neutral and pull the emergency brake. After a few months of this it just fixed itself. It still does it on occasion and eventually starts working right again. If you have another key that is similar in size push it in the slot by the shifter and hold your brake in, this will unlock it. I also put 6 bottles of transmission fluid in mine, because it was so low. Hope this helps

SOURCE: car jerks to side when shifting gears

Hi, just had this problem repaired. The lower arm bushings are bad...not the transmission. I ordered two sets from the nubira site (for the left and right sides of the car)...they are kind of like metal rings with rubber inside...this rubber dampens the shifting from the transmission. $250 - $300 job. Sure that's what it is...

SOURCE: car shakes when started and once in drive does not have any power and shifts improperly, smells like something is burning too.

you need to have an oil change for your transmission, while at it you should clean the strainer or filter inside.

2006 Saturn ION, Pwr steering light came on then the odometer quit working, then the engine light came on, the transmission would then not down shift while driving. All happened at the same time.

its possible that there is an electrical short circuit to ground on your steering system, check your fuses and relays to see if any are blown or not operating the transmission and engine would shut down as a safety precaution in this case

Transmision quit shifting spedomitor quit working

The transmission quit shifting, and the speedometer quit working.
When you say the transmission quit shifting, do you mean you backed out of your driveway, started driving down the street, no speedometer, and you just stayed in 1st as the engine RPM's got higher and higher ?
Please explain what has happened. You should also have a check engine light on in your dash. You will have to plug a OBD II reader in to pull any codes, so we can help you find the problem. Please let us know.

Transmission problem stuck in sport shift mode

I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...

The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???

I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...

4x4 would not shift from low to high without shutting engine off.

Four wheel drive vehicles require you to put the transmission in neutral to go into low and to get out of low. That being said, if you still need to shut the engine down completely then your transmission needs an adjustment.

99 Mercury sable speedo/tranny

VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Tells the PCM (computer) the speed of the vehicle so the PCM can make the proper information to the TCM (transmission control module) to shift.
YOU are goin gto need a scan tool NOt a code reader to monitor the VSS to see what it is putting out for speed when the car is moving But I believe you need a VSS but do not not Go out and buy one until you have had it tested , and can positively confrim it is bad first. Please rate this a fixya if you find this advice helpful, Thanks Randy
