Have a 1995 suzuki that will not start, It has fire and I have tried starter fluid in the throttle body. Just put an exhaust system on. History: Would drivwe to town and it ran fine, lacking a little power but ran fine. got to town (20 Miles) and it lost power, would not accelerate, stalled once but made it almost home where it stalled and I had to get it towed the rest of the way. took exhaust off thinking clogged converter however converter was empty but muffler full of debris. had exhaust off for couple days waiting for parts and wife wanted to make sure it would start. It ran for a couple seconds then shut off, now will not start at all. any suggestions? Timing possibly?
It could be a timing belt issue. You can remove the cover on the front of the engine and look for broken teeth on the belt. You could also position the crank to Top Dead Center (TDC) and remove the #1 spark plug and check if the piston is all the way at the top of the cylinder. By moving the crankshaft GENTLY with a socket, you should be able to see the piston go down. Try placing a 1/4" extension in the spark plug hole if you cannot see the piston directly. Then, watch the extension move.
