Check engine lights comes up on my Isuzu Rodeo I just bought from a private owner.

Since the spark plug is not coming in contact the engine light is flashing. Otherwise take your car to the nearest auto zone and check if any code is stored in the computer or not to get it fixed. However a flashing engine light means the ECU has detected a misfire strong enough to damage the catalyst in the cat.

Usually when the check engine light starts flashing upon starting, it means the ecm has detected a cylinder misfire. Have your ignition system check.

Have the ABS pump ECM checked (it is separate from the main ECM), try to catch it early. I bought a transmission last year. This is typical 98-02 Rodeo behavior.

Fix up da car, get da tune up in dis *****, hook up dat machine dat does like a system check yo. Go to my dawg da mechanic peep and he be all like I doos it fo like 50 bux yo.

Intermitent fault it needs diagnostic tool pluged in while driving,

Check the fuel pressure it could be the fuel pump or pressure regulator.

are you checking code with a small simple scanner this will not always work, a larger more sophisticated unit may find code or runs codes at over 2500 rpms when light comes on

I had that problem too and the issue was a loose wire connecting the engine control modude to the crankshaft sensor switch. The engine control module does not sense where the crankshaft position is when the wire moves, and that causes things to go snaky, such as the transmission and cruise lights coming on. This issue took a good mechanic in Syracuse one and a half weeks to find. Total cost was $425.00,$395.00 for labour, and $.99 for the new wire. Good luck!

Mine did this too... Bought a new fuel sensor for 50 bucks and it's perfect now... if you don't want to spend the cash take your tank off take out you gage and check the floater and all the connections... could have just gummed up or disconnected

If the check engine light is on have it read for the engine problem code. then google that code which will tell you where the problem is coming from.
