What causes my land cruiser not to maintain its idlie

The vehicle will not idle unless I keep my foot on the gas pedal. Also, whenever I shift to drive the vehicle cuts out unless I keep my foot on the gas pedal.

SOURCE: Car will not start without pressing gas pedal to

Have the idle bypass valve checked, also called idle air control valve.
If that valve is stuck in the closed position, it's not allowing the fuel to bypass the throttle plate to keep it idling, resulting in stalling, but will keep engine running if the pedal is pushed down.

SOURCE: 2007 Land Cruiser stalls to idle and non responsive to gas pedal

Had exact same problem after driving 120 miles in Florida heat. After 30 minutes started but ran rough for a day and now seem fine. Thought at first fuel filter or dirty gas. Going to replace filter anyway. Is this a common problem?

SOURCE: if i put my shift

This may be a case of your transmission slipping. This could be caused by your torque converter wearing out or your gears may also be worn out. Inspect also the fluids for your transmission, they might be just low and would need to be replaced. That would be a cheaper fix.

SOURCE: Engine wont start, unless I push the gas pedal and keep my foot on it.?

Could be a dirty throttle body, or a stuck idle air control valve.
Is the check engine light staying on now ?

1994 Toyota Land Cruiser will start, but dies right away and will not hold idle unless one foot is on the brake and one foot is on the gas. Is it the idler motor or the air intake sensor?

Is the fuel contaminated possibly, is the fuel pressure low? If the answer is no to both questions I would lean towards the idle air motor especially if idling is the only issue. Other than idling does it run well?

1997 ford expedition will start but wont stay running unless you hold your foot on the gas pedal. Replaced mass airflow sensor because that's the code that came up. Doesn't do it all the time.

if code keeps coming up re check sensor and connections and if not done replace air filter ----if good than check fuel prssure sometimes clodding fuel filter can cause same problem and set off sensor

My 2000 Land Rover Discovery II doesn't start unless I manually give it gas from the foot pedal. It seems that once the truck runs, it doesn't idle and stalls when I release the foot pedal. There are 2...

The second cable should be for cruise control. Your problem sounds like either a vacuum leak (air entering the engine unmeasured by the air sensor), or fuel vapor in the fuel rail. A vacuum leak can be determined by spraying starting fluid at the air intake hoses, plenum, and connections while the engine is idyling and noting where the engine accelerates to determine where the vacuum is leaking (unmetered air is entering) from. Tighten or replace gasket, hose, seals etc. Bleed the air on the fuel rail if needed with care.
