The fuel sensor goes bad because of sulphur deposits that are naturally present in most gasolines. To help remedy the problem in the future, use a product called Techron every 3,000 miles. It is a gasoline additive.

2040 john deere fuel guage doesnt work

The problem you explain usually has something to do with the sending unit float. Floats can absorb gas to the point where they just sink to the bottom of the tank. This can happen with both brass and plastic floats. The second thing is the sending unit you installed in your tank. Check to see if when you placed the unit in the tank , the float arm may have hung up on a baffle or some other obstruction in the tank. This would keep the sending unit from showing correctly. Good Luck Friend.

Hello, has anyone had a fuel guage problem where the guage just goes from empty to full whilst driving along, its on a 2005 308 cdi sprinter, any solutions would be appreciated thanks brett

the fuel gauge works on an electric pulse. if it is unplugged it will go to empty if it is plugged i it will go up as fare as the tank is full. if it goes higher then the known fuel lvl. you have a bad gauge if it goes up and down when you know it is full you have a bad connection

When my fuel tank is full the guage registers empty

Could be a problem with the gauge in the instrument cluster, or the wiring that goes back to the tank, or the sending unit in the tank.
The sending unit has a float much like your toilet which could stick or fail to move.

Fuel guage always shows empty

It sounds as if the fuel tank sending unit is faulty. This is a small float connected to a variable resistor on the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Unfortunately this assembly is fairly expensive (over $300) and the fuel tank may need to be removed to replace it.

Fuel gage goes from full to emty all the time. when it first stated it only did it with quater tank or less.

Sounds as if the SENDING UNIT in the tank is faulty. They work by RESISTANCE, so when the contacts on the fuel guage sending unit in the tank get worn, it will send incorrect data. Typically it will say full when the actually IS full, then, when the tank is 3/4 full, it will say EMPTY, and then, as you use more fuel from the tank, the guage will go from what is REALLY in the tank, to empty, at different times.

Only solution is to remove the fuel tank, and replace the sending unit guage assembly.

Fuel gauge is on empty and the low fuel light is on, but the tank is full

u either have a bad level sensor in the tank or the guage is bad. u need to get wiring diagram and find connector for fuel sending unit and jump wires to trick guage into thinking it is full if it still say empty u need instrument cluster if it goes to full it level sensor in the tank
