SOURCE: which oxygen sensor is bank 2 sensor 1 on a 1999

this is the upstream O2 sensor, it is located before the catalytic converter, it goes in the exhaust pipe for cylinders 4,5 and 6, see layout at this link.

SOURCE: we replaced all 4 02

Did the bank 2 sensor 1 short out before or after your replaced all 4 sensors? If it was after, you are going to need to replace it again and make sure that the sensor wire is not touching the exhaust pipe anywhere to keep it from shorting out again. I would suggest using a piece of wire or something to attach it somewhere out of the way so it can't possibly rest on the exhaust again. Sorry for the bad news but this will get you in working order again. Thank you so much for using FixYa and let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks, Keith.

My 2004 Volvo s80 2.9L just had a check engine light come up and the faulty codes are P2177 and P2179. please help me understand what does this mean?

Sounds like you need new oxygen sensors.
Suggest take your vehicle to Autozone parts and have them test your engine codes. They do this for free.
They will tell you what you need to replace and more than likely they will have the parts in stock.

I need a oxygen sensor for a 1997 volvo am I needing a downstream or upstream...for my catalytic converter

In the OBD codes, sensor 1 failures are upstream and sensor 2 failures are downstream. If you have more than 2, then Bank 1 is for the ODD cylinders and Bank 2 is for the EVEN cylinders.
