Engine dies and won't restart. Cranks fine, but not run. Oddly, the electric seats quit working at the same time. Can test to see if will run just by testing to see if seats move. Has to be electrical, but checked all fuses and no trouble there.

  • Anonymous Jul 02, 2009

Thanks for trying, but the seats not working are definitely involved. It is not blown fuses, as the problem is intermittent without changing fuses. In my further testing just now, I tried everything to see what all was not working when the problem occurs. One of the things not working is the fast chime when the key is in the ignition but not turned on. Another not working is the dome light that should come on when the door is opened. Odd coincidence - I turned the dome light on using the manual "interior" light knob, and the chime started working and the seats work. I tried successfully to start the engine, and it worked fine as well. With the engine running, I turned off the interior light, and the engine died and seats/windows/mirrors all stop. I turned the light back on and everything including the engine works fine.
Is there a "body control module" perhaps? If so, where and how to find?

There is a good chance that the seats not working and engine not running could be unrelated. Go back to basics.... Is spark coming from distributor and getting to the plugs? How much fuel pressure is coming from fuel pump? As long as you have spark, fuel and air, it should at least want to run.Good luck. Colin BTW Just had a thought.. There are some fusible links, ( they look like part of the wire) basically inline fuses that provide power to run the car. If one of them blows, then you will have some electrical problems too.If you have a Haynes or Chilton manual, you can find out where these fusible links are at, and usually they will tell you the effect if one of them goes bad. Good luck. Colin

u have a fusable link or two gone out they look like a wire maybe a large rubber knot about halfway down them sometimes pull on them and they will pull apart ,all that is holding them together is the insulation when they are burned out they will be usaley coming off starter or a main cable junktion a power source for the car

Could be plugs, distributors, fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel injectors for the starting part. Remove the seat, remove the controls and .lean and replace the plastic plugs in the seat motor repack with plenty of grease.

RE worded Hesitation issues on occasions tonight drove 15 miles stopped put in gas. Drove off got about 1000 yards engine just died had to cost to a space tried to start cranks but wont run?

Do basic testing. When in failed mode, check for spark. I suspect ignition module or coil, as these parts fail when hot and when you turn off running engine it gets hotter before it cools. Hard to diagnose because when you remove module to test, by the time you get to a parts store to test it's really cool again. Make them run test three times and tap with a pencil as you test.

2000 Dodge neon starts and runs fine. But sometimes does want to start Engine cranks, but won't start

How many miles on the car? Have you checked the fuel pressure when it doesn't want to start? Do that first and then move on from there. To quickly test fuel pressure with no special equip get a can of starting fluid from the auto parts store, when it fails to start spray the fluid into the air intake of the engine well it is cranking, if it fires up then the fuel pump is likely not running on for some reason. This can be electrical in nature or just a failed electric fuel pump

2002 Ford Explorer ran out of gas put gas in and won't restart. replaced fuel pump and fuel filter still won't start. Cranks but won't start

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.
