My transmission gets to about 2nd gear and then doesnt switch to the 3rd i changed the filter and fluid i heard possibly i need to change the modulator also why would my power steering pully just break i changed the pump got a new pulley belt was fine but the pully broke while the engine was running what would be a possible way to go about this cause pullys are expinsive
Too Much tension on the belt , wrong belt, wrong pump, or the routing of the belt is not parallel to the other pulley. There is some sideways friction going on that is producing heat which is messing up the bearings and causing the pulley to crack or pump to seize up. When you say pulley just broke, are you talking about just the pulley or the whole pulley and steering pump assembly?

Check both O2 sensor(s) and catalytic coverter.. P0420 means catalyst below threshold. Also check the sensor at the transmission and solenoid.

i would check the power steering fluid level. if thats ok. then i would bet its your power steering pump. other possibilities although rare are :
if its power assisted rack and pinion, rack may need to be replaced if its damaged or corroded on the inside. or could be a pinched hose in the power steering hose routing. Wrong fluid in the power steering pump (causing the valves to swell shut) this happens when quick lube places put the wrong fluids in the wrong places. ( i went to one and they put the wrong fluid in my brakes and had to have my master cylinder replaced and brake system flushed... yes they denied it still cost me 350.00) also could be damaged suspension parts causing the resistance to your steering. hope this gives you some leads to find out whats up.

For those attempting this, it must be known that to get to last pump bolts the mounting bracket for the coil packs has to be removed. But to do this you have to remove the power steering pump pulley, and for that you need a special tool. The kit cost about $65.00 and has the adapters to not only pull off the pulley, but has studs that thread into the end of the power steering pumps shaft to get it back on. Also make note that the bolts around the circumference of the water pump all need to be torqued to specific inch/ pounds and ft/pounds, so a torque wrench is needed.
