Our 2001s type jaguar's battery (fairly new) keeps going dead after driving it maybe 20 miles or more. What do you think is causing this?

SOUND LIKE ALTERNATOR FAULTY, BUT FIRST CHECK FOR LOOSE OR SLIPPING DRIVE BELT. CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE. CHECK ALTERNATOR BATTERY FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES MAKE SURE NONE OF THE WIRES IS LOOSE, DISCONNECTED OR DAMAGED.

Accidently crossed battery wires, after charging. started truck....saw smoke coming from wire to alternator. ???"is the wire just burnt, or do I need to replace alternator??? truck starts up still.

The wire connected to the alternator is a fusible link (wire that is designed to burn or melt just like a fuse). Cut out damaged section & splice in a new section. Most likely alternator is still ok.

93 Jaguar XJ6 ALternator not charging

you'll have to check the alternator to be sure .Because if it is not charging it means that the current goes in. But it does not go around the alternator . It means that there is a wire from the coil that is not connected .You should disconnect the alternator to your car for inspection.

1988 wagoneer electrical issue

I believe that your headlightsw are powered by a fusable link, likely connected near the alternator or battery, I't's possible that the wire may have dropped and did not get re-connected when you installed the alternator, or it was weak and failed while you were working.. I don't see why it would cause the aternator to not charge but either it also completes the battery circuit or there is a second wire.
