Why won't my replacement 3rd brake light work?

My 3rd brake light went out and didn't pass inspection. I replaced it with a new light (plug and play) and it still won't work. The fuse is fine and all the other lights work. When I turn on the hazard lights, all the brake lights come on except the 3rd brake light. Can anybody shed some light on this for me please? Thank you!

If you mean the 3rd brake light of a hatchback vehicle, is there power at the actual socket? If not, sometimes the harnesss weakens from the repetitive up down movement that the wires can break. Id check that.

The 3rd brake light does not flash with the flashers. It works independently and only with the brake pedal. Have someone step down on the brake pedal while you check to see if the light comes on.

SOURCE: no brake lights, fuses keep blowing and wont shift out of park

I would look for a wiring short in the trunk at the taillamp area, or, inspect the sockets for the taillamp bulbs for corrosion. In any case, you have a short circuit in the trunk area, also check the wire that comes from the body & goes up the trunk hinge on the driver side; that wire may be chafed, and it may be shorting out. Hope this helps; please get back to me if you need any further assistance.

SOURCE: Right tail light not working when pressing brake w/ lights on.

There should be at least 2 bulbs in the light assembly. One light is the light that is on when you turn on your headlights with out the brake pressed, the other light only lights up while you press on the brake. Make sure you are replacing the correct bulb. You may have been replacing the bulb that stays on. Your lights may be set up to turn off the light that stays on when the headlights are on while pressing the brakes.

SOURCE: 2005 Corolla LE brake lights not working

to ss1957, i have exactly the same problem as yours. At first i thought the bulbs of both side are okay because the filaments (there's two on each) are intact. It turned out that they're not. The brake lights came back as soon as I replaced the bulbs.

SOURCE: 1989 Toyota Camry. No brake lights.

It could be the relay, which is a yellow box located under the carpeting in the trunk on the left side. It is a problem common to your model. Also, check the brake switch's (behind the brake pedal) functionality (12V present with key at ACC or ON and continuity between wires when button engaged).

i hope this helps

Dude the wires at the trunk inside break from opening and closing. you must peel back the wires covering to expose and fix these wires.

We recently purchased a 2005 Acura TL, my daughter got in turned the key, alarm went off. Finally got that turned off now the car won’t go into gear, please help

Hi. Have you inspected anything yet or do you plan on performing the diagnostics and repairs yourself? You are going to need a few tools to remove lower dash trim, part of the center console and a test light to for testing. My first guess is a worn out brake light switch but that isn't the only thing that can break or wear out. Check the shift selector lever first. Sometimes coins or other belongings are laid upon the shifter and jam it. You will know by simply holding the handle and lightly try to move it forward and back (repeatedly). If anything is jamming it there will be zero play. If there is play you will easily feel the lever move back and forth 1/16". If that passes check for blown fuses. If they pass, Component testing will be next. I use a scan tool to observe some functions, look for ABS codes and a test light for testing. You will need the test light to test for power and ground at the brake light switch and shift interlock solenoid. Please write back if I can be of anymore assistance, Good Luck.

Check Transaxle Ligh flashing shortly after replacing spark plugs

First --- spark plugs seldom fail to fire & cause misfires,
unless they are badly worn & you also have other issues,
such as ignition coil or module problems or vacuum leaks,
to name two.
Also codes are not needed to diagnose any vehicle problem.
To say they can't diagnose a cylinder misfire or a torque converter lock-up solenoid or codes, means you went to the wrong shop or they misunderstood your intentions to spend any money, to actually perform the necessary testing or diagnostic procedures
