If I'm not mistaken that's a chip key car there are 15 maybe 16 codes their resistance value can't be duplicated with some older single individual resistors placed between the wire which will turn off the security or you could also try would has work for me smack the steering wheel with the ball of your fist like you're mad and turn the key and hold the key in the start position at the same time when they make contact it will start I know this is an old post but that really worked for

It should say codes can be duplicated of their resistance value to fool security system

Did you do or have a Crank sensor Variation Learn Procedure ?
The crankshaft position system variation compensating values are stored in the PCM non-volatile memory after a learn procedure has been performed. If the actual crankshaft position system variation is not within the crankshaft position system variation compensating values stored in the PCM, DTC P0300 may set (refer to Diagnostic Aids for DTC P0300).
The Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure should be performed if any of the following conditions are true:
?€¢
DTC P1336 is set.

?€¢
The PCM has been replaced.

?€¢
The engine has been replaced.

?€¢
The crankshaft has been replaced.

?€¢
The crankshaft harmonic balancer has been replaced.

?€¢
The crankshaft position sensor has been replaced.

Need to have a capable scan tool to do this !

Will it only crank with the starter shorted, and not with the key?

not with the key, no. I was thinking it might be the neutral safety switch , however I don't know where it is located on this vehicle

I have started it a couple of times by shorting out the starter but it only runs for about 60 seconds. My battery is ok. I pulled the stareter and had it tested and I pulled the crank position sensor and replaced it. I have no power to the solenoid wire when the key is in start position, (purple wire).

the neutral safety switch is located on top of the tranny. the shifting cable attaches to the selector arm. its possible left that the shift linkage is out of adjustment.

97 LaSabre won't start, will shut off when runnin, has had fuel pump replaced 3 times, and battery terminals are good. Any ideas?

The crank sensor will sometimes fail when the car gets hot. I have ran some of these cars before until they cut off. I sprayed come water on the crank sensor and the car restarted. Replaced crank sensor and the car did not come back again for that problem again.

Car shuts down while driving

It is very likely the part that is giving you the problem is a Crankshaft Position Sensor, they go open circuit when they get hot, then after it cools it becomes a good circuit again, this is very frustrating, had the same issue with my Buick a few years ago, replaced the coils and the ignition module at a cost of hundreds, DID NOT CHANGE A THING, the crank sensor fixed the problem and was $30.00 from Buick.
