Removing spark plug wires without damage to the wire. I cannot seem to get the wires loose from the spark plugs in order to replace the plugs. I am afraid I will damage the wire if I usr too much force.

Ppurchase a special spark plug wire remover tool from any auto shop. Apply the tool twist back and forth and pull uptwards. If replacing the plugs apply anti seeing compound and apply dielectric grease to the boots of the plug wires directly into the boot. This will make removal of both very easy in the future.

Just twist and pull. If they break replace the wires too. How many miles on the truck. It is a good idea to replace the plug wires anyway.

Changed the spark plugs in my 2002 Suzuki xl7 and now it won’t stay running. Drove fine before I changed plugs. Sounds like it is missing.

Did you set the gap on the new plugs to factory settings before putting them in? If not, they may not be the right gap.

Also, any number of other issues are possible such as:
1. Wrong plugs
2. Damaged wires when removed from old plugs
(Plug connector wires can be easily damaged when removing from old plug if just pulled off and special tool isn't used.)
3. Stripped threads on plug allowing gas blow by and poor compression.

No. (2) seems to be the most likely cause without knowing anything else. A new set of ignition wires after 15 years of service is not something frivolous to do and money well spent.

No spark to engine 1991 ford pickup

It can be faulty or dirty spark plug itselfd. Also for reference get the fuel level checked. Is the fuel tank is empty or near to empty.
Try cleaning the spark plugs and then see if that is helpin. On some cases the black carbon layer gets collected on the spark plugs and that causes the problem,so cleaning the plugs help. But if its not helping, then spark plug has to be replaced.Spark plugs get power from ignition coil to ignite sparks. If ignitioncoils are faulty then also there will no spark.--------------

Need to replace sparkplugs on 2002 ford escape

well replace spark plugs is not a hard job, when replacing spark plugs, good time to replace plug wires also.you need to replace one spark plug at a time so you wont mix up firing order. you need a spark socket, torque wrench, 3/8 ratchet wrench, 3/8 short and long extensions, you need a spark plug gap gauge.spark plug gap for 2.0 engine 0.051 the 3.0 engine spark plug gap is 0.052 - 0.056. just follow spark plug wires they will lead you to the spark plugs.warning wait until engine cool down first because removing spark plugs from hot engine could damaged the aluminum heads, use compressed to blow away debris before removing spark plugs keep debris falling into the cylinders.wear safety glasses if you use compress air and use small amount anti seize compound to the spark plug threads.good idea slip a short length rubber hose over the end of spark plug to use as a tool thread it into place.reason i use piece vacuum hose it will grip the spark plug enough to turn it, but will start to slip if the plug begin to cross thread.when installing spark plug, it should turn at least few times if spark plug start tighten before 1/4 turn thread cross threading need to back off start over dont keep turning you will stripped spark plugs threads in the head also damage spark plug threads, so be careful, good luck with job.

How to replace freeze plug on 1998 dodge ram pickup

Use your crescent wrench to disconnect the positive and negative battery cables. Be careful not to touch both battery posts together with your wrench, as this will damage the battery and possibly harm you.

Use your spark plug socket to gently grab the insulated end of the spark plug wire; pull it away from the tip of the plug. The spark plug socket looks like a regular set of pliers, except that the jaws have rubber inserts to grip the insulation without damaging it. The plug wire itself looks like a 15-gauge wire with a rubber boot on each end: One end is connected to the spark plug present in each of the eight cylinders, while the other end is connected to a coil pack terminal, usually located on the right rear side of the engine compartment. The coil pack is a square, black, solid-state component that has eight terminals for each of the eight plug wires.

Use your spark plug socket to gently pull the coil pack end of the plug wire away from the terminal. Repeat the last two steps until all eight wires are removed.

Consult the service manual for your vehicle's year model and determine the exact firing order. You will need to connect each new wire to the numbered coil pack terminal and the corresponding engine cylinder. Failure to replace the wires in the right order will result in failure of engine operation.

Use your crescent wrench to reconnect the battery cables (black wire to black terminal, red wires to red terminal).

Start the vehicle and make sure it is running smoothly. If you hear misfiring in the engine, use the spark plug wrench to make sure all the connections are properly seated. If the condition continues, you will need to further diagnose the electrical system.

Firing order diagram

Here is the firing order diagram for that vehicle, and if the ignition wires are not crossed then one of the spark plugs might have been damaged while installing it and the spark plug gap closed on one of the spark plugs, or one of the ignition wires (spark plug wires) has been damaged, and if those wires are over 5 years old then you should replace them. I hope that this helps you to solve your problem.

I need a spark plug wire diagram for 1987 ford 302 crown vic

1987 Ford Crown Victoria 5.0L FI 8cyl

Duraspark Type Plug Wires
The spark plug wires used with the Duraspark type ignition system are 5 / 16 in. (8mm) in diameter to contain the higher output voltage. There are two types of wires used in this system, and some engines may have both types installed. It is important to properly identify the type of wire used for each cylinder before replacements are made.

Both types are blue in color and have silicone jacketing. The insulation material underneath the jacketing on some plug wires is a silicone layer separated by glass braid. The plug cable not incorporating the silicone layer is used where engine temperatures are cooler and are identified with the letter SE with black printing. The plug cables with the silicone insulation are used where high engine temperatures are present. These cables are identified with the letters SS with white printing.
Each spark plug cable, if original, is marked with the cylinder number, model year and date of cable manufacture (quarter and year). Service replacement wires will not have cylinder numbers, or manufacture date.

On any vehicle equipped with a catalytic converter, never allow the engine to run for more than 30 seconds with a spark plug wire disconnected. Unburned fuel in the cylinder may ignite in the converter as it is exhausted and damage the converter.

When removing spark plug wires, mark and tag the individual wires. Grasp, then slowly, twist the insulator back and forth on the spark plug to free the insulator. Do not pull on the wire directly as it may become separated from the connector inside the insulator. Special tools are available which can help ease plug wire removal, and prevent damage to a cable.

When installing a new set of spark plug wires, replace the wires one at a time so there will be no confusion. Start by replacing the longest wire first. Route the wire exactly the same as the original.

Spark plug replacement

Just pull hard, it does seem pretty tough, but you won't damage anything as long as its a hard consistent pull. Don't TUG, but pull increasing the pressure until it comes out. It needs to be a snug fit in there to keep debris/moisture etc from getting to your spark plug!
