possibly 4 things 1 bad ignition coil heating up then breaking down,2 clogged fuel filter,3 weak fuel pump,4 bad throttle position sensor or map sensor to check sensors simply put on hand held scanner and look for codes. replace fuel filter replace coil pack along with tune up plugs wires put fuel pressure gauge to see if fuel pump is working properly

The first thing you need done is to have the electronic engine control module scanned for codes, this is called a OBD 1 fault code test. It takes a special scan took so a shop or dealer will need to perform the test.

Engine dies while idling, then car won't start for a few minutes

One possibility is a blocked fuel line or filter. It basically runs out of fuel and you have to wait for it to come through slowly. The other possibility is the ignition system is losing spark as something heats up. You have to wait until it's cooled down before it runs again.

96 GMC Jimmy starts okay but dies after about 10 minutes. It will start again after sitting for awhile, then dies again. Have changed the fuel filter and pump...any other ideas?

If you have replaced the fuel pump and filter I would still check the pump pressure when it wants to die. Check for any trouble codes in the system also.

Car stalling out and bot starting after being driven for awhile.

mcdevito75 Here, It"s possible the ignition Module is going bad, no way to test and if so, one day the car will not start at all.----------It can also be a vapor loc, wher the fuel is evaporating before it reaches the cylinders. Best Bet, have your local shop check both these items.

Car dies and battery light comes on.

Will it crank over when it won't start? When It dies check for spark at the sparkplugs if none change the ignition module.
