SOURCE: Tahoe DIC (Digital Information Center) no longer

Hi,

Unfortunately there are a number of service bulletins in relation to problems with the DIC on the Tahoe. Some of these involve problems with the transmission and no crank situations which could be resolved by replacing other components without reference to the DIC itself.

However, in the absence of other symptoms with transmission or doorlocks your problem is reflected in Bulletin 66431 which involves replacement and reprogramming of the instrument panel due to a failed DIC.

See here for more info on these DIC Service Bulletins

This company claims to fix these for $169 USD including all shipping so it would be worth looking into http://www.mrwhizard.com/

You can phone toll free to speak to them first on 1-888-803-8523

There is not much else you can do in relation to troubleshooting this issue as it requires specialist input and ultimately the DIC is highly likely to have failed. Get the dealer to check all connections and wiring first but ultimately the unit will have to be pulled and repaired.

Thanks for using FixYa.

98 Oldsmobile Aurora There's a on my Dash it says information center and has the oil fuel speed all that it says low oil is there any way anybody knows how to reset that

Check your engine oil using the oil dipstick located on the engine - you need to add oil to the fill line as shown on the dipstick. You should have the oil replaced regularly (every 3-6 months) and keep your eye on the level if the engine is leaking oil underneath or burning a lot of it.

1999 Pontiac Montana DIC is dead. Got one from junk yard and get only "--" for data. Any help? Do these have to be factory repaired?

You can try performing a diagnostic self-test of the DIC.

In order to perform the diagnostic self-test and reset the driver information display, simultaneously press the following buttons for at least 2 seconds :

MODE
ENGLISH/METRIC
The reset is acknowledged with the display showing all segments ON for 1 second . You may only reset the following modes. The reset affects all 3 of these modes simultaneously:

AVG ECON
FUEL USED
AVG SPEED

If all of the segments light as described above, but the same symptoms are still present follow these instructions:

Symptom: Driver Information Center (DIC) Always Displays Dashes

1. Check for a poor connection or an open in circuit 800 (Tan wire) between the DIC connector terminal 15 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C1 terminal 15.
2. If a problem is found with the circuit in step 1, repair the circuit and retest. Otherwise continue to step 3.
3. Replace the DIC and retest

What does a c on the dic mean?

Your vehicle has a Driver Information Center (DIC).
All messages will appear in the DIC display located
below the speedometer in the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC buttons are located on the instrument panel,
to the left of the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC comes on when the ignition is on. After a short
delay, the DIC will display the information that was
last displayed before the engine was turned off.
The DIC displays trip, fuel, and vehicle system
information, and warning messages if a system problem
is detected. The bottom line of the DIC shows the
shift lever position indicator. See Automatic
Transmission Operation on page 3-23
for more
information.
If your vehicle’s DIC has these features, the compass
direction and the outside air temperature may also
display on the DIC when viewing the trip and fuel
information. The compass direction appears on the top
right corner of the DIC display. The outside air
temperature automatically appears in the bottom right
corner of the DIC display. If there is a problem with the
system that controls the temperature display, the
numbers will be replaced with dashes. If this occurs,
have the vehicle serviced by your dealer/retailer.
The DIC also allows some features to be customized.
See DIC Vehicle Customization on page 4-66 for
more information.
