Does a 2000 volvo s80 have a timing chain or timing belt?

NEED PHOTO OF TIMING MARKS ON A 2000 VOLVO S80

Volvo recommends for Volvo S80, changing the timing belt every 105,000 miles. Needless to say, they are pretty religious about this now.
The B20, B21, B23, and B230 engines are non-interference engines, meaning that the camshaft can be rotated independently of the crankshaft and no damage will result to the engine. That is, if the timing belt breaks, the valves will not hit the pistons; the engine will simply stop.
On the other hand, the B234 16-valve engines and any of the other Volvo multi valve engines are interference engines. Loss of the timing belt in these engines will result in severe or fatal engine damage.
Your car might be fitted with:
2.8L (VIN 90, 6th & 7th digit, B6284T eng, turbo)
2.9L (VIN 94, 6th & 7th digit, B6294S eng)

I had a similar problem w recently bought 2003 S80.Several points: 1) Access your locking selonoid through the trunk interior panel ... loosen a few hex bolts and slide out for maintenance; 2) I fixed my lock by simply using light teflon-based oil (like for bike chains). I exercised it a few times and it works beautifully; 3) Not sure on your model, but gas door on the '03 unlocks when you push the associated release button under the headlight control switch. It is not designed to unlock w the key (again, check owners manual for your year). Hope this helps. master_pre08-04-2007, 09:35 AMYeah, the fuel door on my 2000 S80 is connected with the door locks. I wouldn't try it if you don't know how, (specially if this is what is known as an interference engine). Valve timing is *very* delicate and stray pistons love to chew them up!

If you purchase a goodyear replacement belt the diagram is on the back of the sleeve

Recommend you leave this to a professional.

It can so easily end in tears, if you get the valve timing wrong, fitting a new belt on this one !
