I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus. My check engine light came on and after a while after putting gas in it one day, it went off. I was driving and in coming to a stop it just lost power and died. It didn't want to start, so I waited a few seconds and tried again. It started and I went on where I was going and it is ran fine going back home. It is lost power a couple of times before this but always started and ran fine. Any suggestions?
You need to see what trouble code was set when the check engine light came on

You likely need a new fuel sending unit (it's in the trunk, and is what drives the gauge).

Best place to start is with "check engine light". Put vehicle in park, foot on brake, and cycle key on, off, on, off, on, then wait with pen & paper ready to read flashes of check engine lamp. Will be a 2 digit code each time. For example, flash, short pause & flash, will be 11, or flash, flash, short pause, flash, flash would be 22. In between trouble codes you'll get a little longer pause, then it will start to flash again if more than one code, which is quite possible. Also note that I say key to on, not start, just on.(normal run position) Then get back to us and we'll be able to better help you.

I had the same problem - it was a fuse that controls the speedometer and the shifting solenoid

sound like it could be fuel. pump or timeing belt. if you put a new fuel filter in be sure to replace the fuel filter

You need to have that chk'd out. Even low oil pressure can damage the engine let alone no oil pressure. Ck your oil level. It is a serious issue to have that light on. Good Luck, _Ned_
