I have a 02 ford escape xls battey warning lite came on while driving home from work got home car will not start there is a clicking noise like the battery is dead but lights radio ect still going strong

Check your alternator drive belt if thats ok get the alternator tested .Your battery may have enough juice to power the lights but not enough to turn the engine . Try jump starting it. Hope this helps

You talking rear differential? I would check the fluid level. There should be a plug where you can check fluid and add if needed. If you take the plug out and fluid tries to run out, put the plug back in, the fluid level is ok. In the old days, I'd stick the tip of my index finger and bend, If I could touch the fluid, I considered the level to be ok. I believe the spec I saw said about 3/16 below edge of hole was ok.
Check battery cables for corrosion and good connection.
Try to boost it with jump starter.
Try to tap on starter while attempt to start.
To me sounds like a bad starter.
