I have a 97 GMC Jimmy 6 cylinder 4wd. The fuel pump was replaced with a gm fuel pump approx. 2.5 yrs ago. the car has over a half a tank of gas. The day it broke down it started right up was running fine no rough idling or anything. I went up a pretty steep hill close to my home and then stopped at a red light. Still no problem. I left the light and started up another small hill and the car just died. It tries to turn over but seems to not be getting fuel. The fuel pump is working or at least it sounds like it is. I rented an analyzer for the computer but it came back with no codes. I had the battery checked and it was questionable if it was bad so they replaced it with a new one but that didn't do anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just need to get my car running. Thanks
Let's start with the simple things. Change the fuel filter first and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi with the fuel line pressurized and should drop by 5 psi when engine is running. Keep me posted, be glad to help.If there is an Auto Zone around your area you can lone out a fuel pressure gauge and they will have the step y step instructions for you to get the job done. Good luck.
