I have a 98 ford ranger with the mitsubishi 5 speed trans it was a 4 wheel drive it went out put 2 w d back in it now the slip yoke i got from the drive shaft store sildes in a inch then hit s something and wont go any more the spines are the same but it looks like the od of yoke is thicker but the salesman said that all the books shows

Check that the shaft is too long and the spline section is bottoming out

if you look there is probably only one axle shaft turning also that shaft should not turn unless the wheels are there is probably something wrong with that hub not a big problem to tear down and check you can also get replacement hubs that are manual locking.

HI !!! there usully one problem w/ this when thoesnt shfti right from firs to the second also takes more time is the Solenoid Pack in Rey. have computer tested and it wil tell you which has to be changr all this work inside the trnsmsion

Be sure to put the truck in neutral, while engine is running, while you disengage from 4 wheel drive (low) to 4 wheel drive (high) and then finally to 2 wheel drive. It is critical to shift transmission into neutral when switching out of 4WD Low, as indicated in your owner's manual. Hopefully, this will help to FixYa problem!

5 speed manual transmission

In situations such as yours it is advisable to firstly go to the manufacturers spares department and enquire if one is available.. If not remove the seal and along with the measurement of the dia of the slip yoke go to a shop that sells bearing and seals only and they will be able to match up the correct seal. If you look closely at the seal there should be a make and seal number stamped /moulded on the outside face and this will identify the seal. All seals are made by seal makers and bearing makers so that is the best place to look

Location of 4 wheel drive relay on 98 ford ranger

All the relays are under the hood on these rangers, but you problem may be with the control box behind the jump seat on the drivers side. You may have to remove the jump seat to get to it. Once there, the box will have a white,grey or black button on it. Usually on the end where the red light is, Turn the key on and press this button and hold for 5 seconds. This puts the 4 wheel drive shift motor back in sequence. Now without starting the engine and the trans in park if auto and neutral if standard park break set, try the to shift in to 4 high, if you can hear the shift motor run and shift the gears in the transfer case, try 4 low, you should hear the same motion in the transfer case, if so you have solved your problem. If not you may have to move on to the connector on the transfer case, you may have to unplug the connector and look at the pins and socket, if they look corroded, clean and apply some dielectric grease to the pins and the socket and plug back in. Try the 4 High and 4 low again. If it works, great, if not you may have a bad shift motor.

Need to know what 5 speed transmissions will interchange with a 92 ranger with a 3.0

You didn't mention if it was 2 or 4 wheel drive so I went with a 2 wheel drive. According to hollander the 5 speed transmaaion fits a ranger (2WD) 1991 - 1994 and a Mazda B3000 1994 only. Hope this helps.....

Hi. My ford escort 97 lx wagon transmission is not shifting anymore it is stuck in first gear(althought if i put it in neutral while driving and switch back to drive it picks up for a few seconds...) and...

My brothers 2000 ford ranger the fuse went out to the speed sensor. I change the speed sensor because it did not shift out of 1st gear and the speedometer stopped working. I then found out the fuse was missing in the fuse panel. My brother could not tell where the fuse went but when I put a fuse in it started shifting and the speedometer started working. everything was good. You should have a code if it is the speed sensor.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy, trans slipping that I have been towing

Low fluid can cause slipping. (depends upon how low) Most manufacturers post "safe" tow speeds. These are generally ignored. (not good). I recommend towing with driveshafts removed and where driveshaft has a "slip yoke" you install a yoke from a scrapyard and wire it to the tailshaft so it stays in place (keeps oil in and dirt out) Although you can't just detach the tow-bar and drive, it eliminates any possibility of trans damage, since the transmission cannot turn. (most use oil from pump to keep gearsets cool...when towing, pump is not pumping and over time and distance it can damage trans internals.)
Hope your problem is just low fluid and not a rebuild...keep in mind what I said though.

are u sure the alignment (side to side, up and down) of the trans on the bell housingis not out of spec, that will burn the bearings out very quickly.
