How to disable immobilizer Mitsubishi eclipse 2000

Bought a ECU, immobilizer and key cylinder, cranks over but does not start. the old ECU will start the car but has other problems. seems like the fuel pump is still disabled with the new one. now I am being told that the new ECU needs to be programmed. the dealer says they won't re-flash it.

SOURCE: my 2000 mitsubishi galant es went dead, motor will turn over but

do you have spark? How do you know if your timing belt is good? sometimes it doesnt break just shed the teeth which could be missing under the crankshaft. The best way to check is to have two people. have one try to start the car and see if the camshaft is actually spinning. The crankshaft will always turn but if the teeth are gone on timing belt this would cause the belt to stay in one position not moving the camshaft. so if you can remove the upper timing belt cover and do this quick inspection with someone that will tell you for sure. if it does look like it is spinning then by hand turn engine very slowly with plug coil wires removed. and make sure teeth are all there. It couldve jumped timing. (valve timing)

SOURCE: 2000 Mitsubishi Galant won't crank

Start with the old addage, "Give it fuel, Give it fire, and you will get what you desire." Check your fuel rail under the hood, it should have a valve almost like where you add air to a tire. Press the pin, fuel should shoot out of there. If not, its a fuel problem then you just trace it back down the line. Could be a fuel filter? Next, check your spark. See if your getting any to the plugs, if no, start tracing it back. Also, you didn't say if you recently replaced plugs and wires. If there are plug wires, which there should be, make sure they are connected to the right plug. If not your firing order won't be even close, so thats a no start. Check your fuel injection relay under the hood if you have one. Make sure it is working. This relay gives the fuel injectors their power. Basically, check anything that you need to make an engine run but start with the most basic first. Could be a bad MAF Sensor too. Also, don't rule out something crazy like a Crankshaft position sensor. There are ways to back probe all the sensors with a test light just look around online and find out what sensors you have and how to test them.

Testimonial: "My expert was SUPER helpful. Stuck with me through the entire situation even though we couldn't fix the problem but then neither could the dealer."

I have a 2000 eclipse that has the green car with a key flashing and car will not start. It has the original chip and a new key.I took the chip out of the old key and placed it near the ignition switch....

Car shape with key symbol inside it. It is part of the anti-theft/immobilizer system that all eclipse have. For car's with alarm, it serves as an indicator that the car alarm has been armed. If it blinks, it usually mean that there is a problem with the key.

Yes that would likely do it with the aftermarket key.use original key.that will help.

Also fore details with same issue click the link below and follow step by step troubleshooting.

Why is there intermittent 'no start'?

If key is worn or chip contacts are loose this can happen--also a bad ignition switch.

I have a 03 eclipse no fuel nor spark. I've changed timing belt, cam and crank sensor as well as the computer. Any tips guys?

Lets start at the basics: is everything that needs it getting +12v?

There's the MPI relay (large can near the ECU, behind the radio) that is powered by the IGN switch, and in turn powers the ECU and fuel pump. So ...
Do you have ANY kind of alarm/immobilizer gadget installed? If so, disconnect it.
Does the IGN ON display the dash indicators? If not, start looking at fuses.
Is the ECU actually running? Check with a scanner to see if the ECU is running, or of there are any error codes. IF the ECU is nsot running, check that +12v from the MPI relay is getting to the ECU.

Are you absolutely certain that the cam belt is installed correctly and all the timing marks line up? Move the crank to TDC and check the cam sprocket points.

Are you certain that you have the plug leads correctly connected?

Is the coolant temp sensor (on the thermostat housing) connected and the wires are not damaged. No temp sensor input will make for hard or no start.

Why does the security light flash even when key is on and engine will not start?

The security light flashing is the indicator. The fuel pump is disabled by the ECU because the immobilizer system does not recognize the transponder chip inside the key.

There could be several causes.
a. Either the transponder chip inside the key is bad, not programmed, or missing
b. The antennae that is located around the ignition lock is bad and/or not reading the transponder chip inside the key.
c. There is a wiring issue between the ECU and antennae.
d. The ECU is bad

You may want to seek out a qualified mechanic or automotive locksmith for help, not all mechanics and/or locksmiths are capable of handling the immobilizer systems on these vehicles. So be clear when discussing your problem to them and make sure they are capable of handling this type of problem.

If the key is not original, check to see if it is a cloned key. Some cloned keys use batteries, when the battery inside the key dies, it no longer communicates with the vehicle. Although it's not common, regular transponder chips can go bad, usually due to physical damage.

An immobilizer transceiver coil tester can be used to test the signal from the antennae at the lock cylinder.

If the ECU is determined to be bad, a used ECU with matching part numbers can be used as a replacement. Contrary to what a dealership or some shops may tell you, all that is required is an immobilizer reset service on the used, replacement, ECU to get it to function with your vehicle. A used ECU and an Immobilizer Reset Service is much cheaper than a new ECU from the dealer. Make absolutely sure that this is the problem before going this route though.

We have a 2000 eclipse, a few weeks ago, somebody tried to steal it by busting up the steering colum. we just replaced the steering colum and the car doesn't want to start. does this car have a kill switch...

Yes, the car has an immobilizer, that only allows the car to start when the proper key (with the proper chip) is inserted into the ignition. Your new column prolbably has a different ignition cylinder (and thus the incorrect key) or is not capable of sending the signal to the ECU

My 2000 eclipse wont start up all the way

I have the same problem on my 2002 Eclipse RS 2.4l 4 cylinder. Replaced the battery, starter, fuel pump(not at one time) . It started up when I had the starter put on as well the fuel pump. But everytime I started the car up it ran good till I turned it off the problem was still there. The car sounds like it wants to start but it sputters you can smell the gas so I know its getting fuel. it starts up fine with a cold start like in the morning.

Try getting a diagnostic thats what Im going to do next week.
good luck!!!
