SOURCE: 1967 Ford Mustang-- idle problem

If I had to fix this, I would use a tiered approach. You have several issues to deal with. 1st- is the engine timing correct (lets assume it is), try adjusting the choke (blackdial on the ffront of a single barrel, turn towards lean) this should bring down the idle. Turn it till it almost dies then turn in the opposite dirrection SLIGHTLY until it steadies out. The engine might shake more now (it did w/mine) so now you losen the 1/2 bolt that is behind the distribibutor. Now that the dis. is lose turn the whole diss. assembily slightly in either direction. One way will steady out the engine, this is adjusting the ignition timmiing. If all that works out you should be golden. Of course there is a lot of possible causes connecting rod length between the gas pedal & carb, vac. leak(through a vac. gauge on it, that will help finding wether or not there is a leak). if this doesnt work repost with results and a vacum reading. I'll check back

SOURCE: runs rough

How long have you had this problem? It could just be a bad tank of gas. Other things to check:
1. fuel pump and filter
Could be running on only 5 cylinders due to
2. spark plugs/wires
3. plugged fuel injector
Any problems with electrical? Like lights dimming at same time as running rough?
4. could be bad alternator putting excessive load on engine.

SOURCE: ENGINE MISSING ABOVE 3800 RPM

no the code is most likely from a dpfe sensor for you egr system not the egr valve itself.a clogged fuel filter though might cause your low revs

SOURCE: my gas gauge on my 93 ford mustang quit working.

i suspect a broken wire between guage and sender unit in tank, but the sending unit could be bad, find the wire to the float guage in the tank and disconnect it, if fuel level does not change then then touch the wire to a ground, if the guage changes then the wire is ok and the unit is bad, if it does not change check wiring and guage for faults.

Start up and die out

Controlled by water temperature, the engine has a "cold start sequence" which does the job of the old time choke. This setting makes the fuel more rich and the idle speed much faster until the engine warms up. Sometimes its the sensor which goes bad and only sends the wrong signal and other times the engine control computer gets the signal and does not make the adjustments.

The cheaper part is the water sensor. Some cars use 2 with 1 working the temperature gauge and the other working the engine controls.

The second possibility depends on whether this engine has a part called a Manifold runner. The manifold has 2 settings and this lets it change from one position for low rpm to the second position for high rpm. It will not run good with the wrong setting.

My 2003 ford mustang is sputtering and the check engine light is blinking no code

You can get a free scan from Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance auto parts. This should indicate a problem. If the standard test scanner does not verify a problem, the Dealers have more advanced scanners which can capture intermittent problems.

There are so many possibilities that you need more tests to find the problem. Offhand, if this is a V6 engine, there were problems with intake Manifold runners and sandwich gaskets for 2 piece intake manifolds.

Stuck manifold runners could provide lousy low rpm performance and perfect high rpm performance just like you describe whether a V6 or V8. The 2 piece intakes were used on V6 engines and once you get above midrange in Rpm, it could run acceptably at higher Rpm.

Rpm problems with no check engine light on

If the RPM is high check for a vacuum leak. Examine all vacuum hoses for cracking or disconnections. If no problem is found, spray carburetor cleaner on the intake manifold and any other gasketed areas on the top of the engine. If, when spraying, the engine RPM fluctuates, then suspect a gasket leak where the spray is entering the engine. Also check throttle body for sticking. Clean it with carburetor cleaner.

Low RPM could indicate a clogged fuel filter, low gas, dirty or bad fuel injectors. If engine idle is low because it is running poorly (e.g., a misfire), check engine for misfire. Misfires can be caused by bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, bad fuel injectors, a bad coil pack, low compression in a cylinder, etc. Check the obvious cheapest things first.

If RPM is varying up and down, check Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) for sticking or obstructions. You may need professional help at this point.

Idle problem integra

check the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). The ECM (car computer) uses that to keep idle at minimum 750 RPM. It's normal for it to run high when cold. These small 4 banger motors typically run hot, and they won't run right IF they're NOT running hot, ergo the idle is usually high when it is cold so as to cause it to warm up quicker. If the RPM's drop below 750, suspect the MAP sensor, &/or ECM.

Car blows white smoke at high rpm runs bad

hmmm...This kind of problem usually is due to cam shaft/valve timing issues. Sometimes, the cam shaft is not properly positioned and is not in sync with the distributor thus the exhaust valves open early releasing unburnt fuel. This will cause the engine to definitely run bad.
I suggest that you try to adjust your engine's timing first (cam and distributor) and then see the results. Also, remember that there is a limit to the rpm that an engine must do- about 6,000rpm is enough for high or max hp. Another information, a camshaft will only work best at a given rpm range so if you run your engine too low or too high, the engine will not work properly. In fact, there are special cam shafts for engines intended to run at high rpm while sacrificing lower rpm levels (the engine runs grumpy at low rpm levels).
Worst case, however, is that white smoke sometimes indicates that oil enters your combustion chamber, this will cost an expensive rebuild if such is the fact.
