SOURCE: 2002 Izusu Rodeo timing problems

Check with your local Izuzu dealer, there is a procedure to set the cams in proper relationship with each other. This involves turning the cams up to 8 rotations to have them "jump" into the proper spot. I have had the same problem and found a bulletin that shows the correct way to time the engine.

Fixed problem it was the ignition coil, now it runs very smoothly! thanks to all that helped

SOURCE: trouble getting marks aligned on 2001 Izusu Rodeo

if its a 6VE1 engine you might want to remove rocker covers and put front lobes of camshafts in position shown in picture with cam gear timmed up at same point cam gear are 3:1 ratio

Let the vehicle warm up for 10 minutes at idle and shift it to Reverse if the RPM bumps up thats fine but if it dosent then replace the IAC idler air control valve.

You will have to take it off from underneath,it bolts to the transmission housing in the rear of the engine.
