To remove the oil pain on your truck is not the easiest task. You will need to have the front end supported, front diffetential and the frame cross member must come out. Note: the differential will come out without removing either of the two axles. The only othe things to come off is the starter and the oil cooler lines if equipped, and dont forget the two hidden bolts at the back near the bell housing.

Oil warning light on -- oil level in sump okay What solution

There is a sensor in the oil pan. It measures the amount of oil in there. It may have gone bad, That or you may have a piece of trash ( something blocking the sensor), just enough to not get a proper reading. Just before your next oil change, you and add some Marvels Mystery, or oil type flush fluid, to the oil to help clean the engine and oil pan. If that doesn't work, time to change a sensor. Dealer item (sorry, it costs). Then drop the pan, change the gasket, clean the pan and lowers(bottom of the engine, where pan is), change sensor, and gasket, remount pan, fill with oil and thats it

I need to replace the oil pan in a 2001 dodge neon. Is this a DYI job??

Do you need to replace the oil pan it self or just the oil pan seal? This can been a DYI job, depending on your experience working with cars. You will need a your basic tools. (Jack Stands, Jack, Oil Container, wrenches and sockets, new oil and filter.) The first thing you will need to do is drain the oil. This is a good time to change your oil since you will be taking the oil pan completely off.
Steps to removing oil pan
1) Set car on jack stands or ramps in order to work under the car. (Be Safe, Be Smart!)
2) You will need a wrench or socket to remove oil drain plug and drain the oil out of the car
-This is a good time to change your oil, so replace oil filter as well.
3) Once the oil is drained you can take of the oil pan off. Most oil pans are just bolted. Not to hard to take of.
4) Once off this is a good time to clean the oil pan if your just replacing the gasket. Do not use lubricant cleaners like wd-40. Brake cleaner has worked for me, you can also ask your local auto shop or autozone for a good cleaner.
5)Replace the oil pan with new gasket making sure there are no tears in gasket and it sits well between the oil pan and engine block. (Make sure there is nothing in the oil pan as well that could cause harm)
6) once you replaced the oil pan its just as simple as putting oil back into your car like you are changing your oil.

I want to change my own oil. what side is the oil pan on?

If you do not know where the oil pan Is I would really consider getting help with your first oil change. The pan is on the bottom of the motor and has a plug on the bottom of it which is used to drain. The key is not to over tighten/strip the plug when putting back on. Make sure the oil filter is changed and tightened properly. It is def not a bad idea to have a 2nd person so assist for your first oil change!!
