SOURCE: how to replace valve cover gasket 1998 chevy malibu

The first step is to remove all the parts that are in the way of you being able to remove the valve covers. (Ex.: air intake, loose wires etc.) Then you will need to remove your valve covers (using basic tools) and be very careful to not let anything get on your lifters, which your valve covers protect. Once you have the valve covers off compare the new gaskets to make sure they are the right size. Then remove the old gasket and replace with the new one using a high temp gasket sealant (available at any auto parts store) to attach the gasket to the valve covers. Then tighten down snug and check for leaks after replaced.

SOURCE: how do i take the valve cover gasket off? 1997 chevy cavalier

just unbolt it and clean all of the old gasket off and put gasket sealant on the valve cover it self and put the gasket to it make sure it sticks to it good let it set to seal for a few and put it back on and torque it down to spec. or just try not to get it to loose or to where you crush the gasket ok and you prob. will be ok just remember gasket sealant is very sticky so yeah.

SOURCE: valve cover gasket, rear main seal, and strange

all valve covers leak a little when they get old, this is not a major problem may just need new gasket, the main seals are notorious for leaking..will need to have transmission off to replace. strange idling could mean fuel injectors are dirty... purchase a can of Sea Foam @ Autozone, pour in 1/2 can to half tank of gas drive around for half hour see if it wont clear up the whole fuel system..if that didn't fix the idle problem, then it could be dirty air filter or plugged up erg valve or vacuum leak..check all hoses for cracks and security. One more thing, if its been awhile since the plugs have been changed i'd look into that too! hopethis helps!

I have a 1994 geo tracker ,with 4 cylinder engine, it has been leaking oil and i just noticed the 4 bolts holding the valve cover were not tight. I would like to know if anyone nhas idea how they became...

most valve covers screws are loose.
they use very low torque.
and as the gasket ages, (gee the tbelt service changes it at 60,000 miles every time) but the old gaskets do shrink and must be replace way before they harden and shrink.
there are 2 engines, one is 16v alum. cover. and 8v steel cover.
so cant help much lacking that fact.
the 8v has as little as 33 INCH lbs force, 2.7 foot lbs.
as you can see that is TINY, can can be construed as loose and is for SURE not.
that is because the steel cover will DEFORM too tight and actually leak like that.

here are both settings for both engines.

all old kick enignes leak oil
at the VC (valve cover)
and the Distributor 2 o-rings
and both are lack of proper service.
here is the page.
see #2 and #3 here.
id bet it was NEVER DONE.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5L that is leaking oil into the spark plug tubes; can these seals be replaced or does the valve cover have to be replaced?

Yes, you need a Rocker cover (valve cover) Gasket kit. Remove the valve cover, remove all old O-rings and cover gasket, clean grooves and mating surfaces without gouging or scratching them, put the new gaskets on as per factory recommendations, tighten to the proper torque and you're done. The spark plug holes in the cover are part of the valve cover gasket kit. Any Napa, Car Quest, Pep Boys, Auto Zone will have it.

Changing pvc valve

1995 Geo Truck Tracker 4WD 1.6L TBI SOHC 4cyl
The PCV Valve is located under hood, center, upper engine area, top of engine, mounted in passenger side of intake manifold.

The low gas mileage and the versatility that your 1995 through 1999 Geo Tracker offers are two benefits of owning it. The maintenance needs to be kept up on your Geo Tracker. One form of this maintenance is to replace the valve cover gasket once you have driven 100,000 miles or more.
  1. Allow your engine to cool. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air inlet hose and air intake case or air cleaner housing. Detach the PCV valve hose from the PCV valve. Separate and remove the spark plug wires and the accelerator cable from their clips.
  2. Loosen and remove the valve cover bolts. Lift the cover up and off. Using a flathead screwdriver, gently nudge the gasket out of the gasket seating area. Using automotive engine cleaner and a clean cloth rag, clean the gasket seating area.
  3. Place the new gasket in the gasket seating area. Put the cover back into place. Put the bolts in and then using a torque wrench tighten them. Do not over tighten the bolts or the gasket will not fit correctly. Reconnect the spark plug wires and the accelerator cable in the holding clips.
  4. Reconnect the rubber hose to the PCV valve. Install the air intake case, or air cleaner housing, and the air inlet hose. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Add oil to the car and start the engine. Allow the car to run 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the oil to lubricate the engine while it moves to the top.
I hope helps with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.
