1999 chevy suburban 2500hd 5.7 350cid motor was severly over heated don't know if its just head problem or entire motor. anyways always been told don;t waste your time doing heads when motor has 180k. thinking about replacing engine. I was told i need to find an engine between 96 and 2001. never knew finding a 350 motor would be so difidult. I have found a 88 motor. can I use it in my 99? someone said if I get an 88 computer it would work. would it?Also would my trans work on an 88? Thanks for any info could help with. Guy
If it is overheated what smart people do is have a wet and dry compression test done to determine the extent of the damage
yes 180.000mils id s fair distance but about 1/2 of what can be expected if the motor was well maintained
Not every overheating destroys an engine and what you call severly overheated may just be head gaskets or cracked heads
for instance , when the engine was allowed to cool down, coolant added and the engine started , was there any rattles clangs or bangs evident, did it miss badly, immediately blow the water out of the radiator or did it start and run reasonably well
What I am trying to do is remove the hysteria of what happened to get to a point where consideration can be given to a reasonable course of action
unless you lost all of the coolant from a burst bottom radiator hose there is still coolant around the cylinders
even if the pistons have picked up on the cylinder walls (rattles and bangs ) or the rings have softened the damage can be repaired with a cylinder rebore /hone and new pistons and ring sets
the heads will need a skim to make them flat again and new head gaskets but generally all of that will return the engine to serviceable condition cheaper than a new engine and be better than a wrecker/junkyard engine
a compression test will reveal the extent of the damage to start with , then the head removes will show the rest of the damage to the cylinder bores
all you have to do is find an accredited engine reconditioning shop ( not the local mechanic as they will say straight out --new engine) and get a diagnosis and quote before you make the decision

SOURCE: 2004 aveo timing belt broke, all valves bent
just go to any junk yard and find a used deawoo lanos and pull the head if timing belt was not broke, if it looks good, its a exact fit 100%, no special tools needed, just normal wrench set and torqe wrench. after head is installed, get a gates timing belt only.

To replace the timing belt back guard you will have to remove both pulleys. There is a small bolt under each pulley holding the belt guard Use a large socket to hold the pulley while you break the bolt loose with a 17mm socket. I have just done this while replacing my head gaskets due to coolant boiling from the gasket leak.
SOURCE: 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd had power window motors replaced
door window does it work from driver door yes or no then does not work at that door , if it does not work from that same door its the switch in door, Second take it to a auto body shop its cheaper rates

it may not be a vacumn leak from a line, check the throttle shaft for movement, for example,i had a 89 1 ton 350 and my throttle shaft was moving around a lot and in order to keep it from idling high,i had to kick the throttle pedal. But also check the idle air control valve, which is the round sensor on the side of the throttle body.
