Sounds like a starter solenoid went bad which it is easier to replace the whole starter assembly then just the solenoid and you can get one with a LLT Limited Life Time warranty.

Which wires connect to (starter) solenoid?

Two heavy gage red wires one from the battery the side goes to the starter . The other is red with a light blue stripe ( small gage wire) Goes to small terminal . Starter solenoid located on inner fender ,engine compartment , not on top of starter ?
You can go to www.bbbind.com/ for free wiring diagrams . On the home page click on technical information five box will come up . Click on tsb's an free wiring diagrams . On the next page go to bottom an click on I agree . Next page click wiring diagrams an then enter your vehicle make, model ,year , engine size. Then under system click on engine , then subsystem click on starting ,then click search . Then click on the blue links one at a time . Do you know how to read a wiring diagram ? At the top you can zoom in closer an on the sides click on the arrows to expand the diagram right an left . The first diagram if you look on the left side near the battery you will see the starter relay has three wires going to it. Good luck hope this helps >

2003 Sunfire automatic 245000km runs well, engine stops while driving, clicking under the dash, then restarts , runs fine until next time

with the details that you have provided, it sounds like it may be either a ground, or ignition relay, but I've also encountered the same problem being the starter wire to the starter. The reason I think that is because of your dash lights coming back on .If you have use of a voltmeter you can test and see how much power is actually going to the starter An ignition relay could do the same, but usually won't interrupt the engine after it's running.

I have 1999 Sunfire and it won't start everytime i try starting it all i can hear is a fast knocking noise in the starter i do have a new started in it, any idea's what would cause that ?

Check the battery's state of charge-might be too low. Check battery post connections. Clean and retighten them, and check battery ground, and connection of cable to starter. Sounds like starter is not getting full battery voltage to work.

Disconnected battery and now won't start

Won't start as in no rotation of the starter motor and no clicking sound? Or starter turns slowly with the engine? Or the starter and engines turns normally but will not start? Or starter turns normally but engine will not turn?

I have a 2004 pontiac sunfire with a few problems. First, when I turn the ignition to start the car all I get is a fast-paced clicking sound from the dash area and the engine doesnt even turn over. This...

as fo the idle, there is a IAC ( idle air control to maintain idle. you may have to remove this and clean the carbon out of it, and the intake as well. as for the clicking there are 3 solutions to fix it. battery if it is ok, the solinoid is bad on starter or the starter itself. but it does sound like a bad starter solinoid, because a bad battery will make the same clicking from solinoid. but make sure battery is ok first. when engine is off voltage at battery should be at least 12.6 or better. when running and alternator is ok, it should read about 14.2 to 14.7 if lower then 14 volts alt. is bad. have a very good day !! hope this helps!

2001 Pontiac Sunfire automatic engine may start

You might want to have it checked to see if you have fuel pressure or see if there is spark going thru to your spark plug.If everything is ok it might be your timing belt needs replacing
