Starter clicks but car won't start

Turn on the headlights. If they're nice and bright, try the horn. If the horn sounds o.k. the battery is probably o.k. Locate the starter under the motor. Find a spot on the side of the starter that you can hit with a hammer. Have somebody turn the key while you hit the starter with the hammer. If it starts, you need a new starter. You can only do this a couple of times before it won't work at all.

HOW DO i HIT THE STARTER WITH A HAMMER

Hi Barb, I'm glad to help! Barb you have a RANGE SWITCH which is located on top of the transmission and the shifter cable connects to it. Your other question on how to hit the starter with a hammer. Just so you know its best for someone to hold the key in the start position while you hit the starter. If you can't reach the starter to hit it with a hammer then use a long object to reach the starter and hit that object it will have the same affect. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Barb.

Isuzu rodeo wont start

Never hit a Japanese starter with a hammer. They have permanent field magnets and they will shatter like glass. These starters are prone to low voltage at key signal wire on the solenoid (black with white ) John Deere has a starter relay kit that will supply full voltage to the starter solenoid. Wire per enclosed instruction sheet.

Will not crank

check you battery and cables. if ok check for power when someone tries to start it. if you have power hit the starter with a hammer (be careful not to break the starter) and if the starter is bad it may start when hit with a hammer. if that is the case then you will need to replace the starter.

It wont start battery is good. i was told to hit starter with a hammer to start. Where is the starter located?

It's at the back of the engine.
If you don't know what it is, don't hit it with a hammer, take it to a shop and have it pulled off and cleaned. Sometimes, dirt and grit loads onto the shaft that the bendix gear slides on.

Dodge neon turns over but wont start.

Check battery voltage!

Get someone to help you, acquire a hammer and a stick thick enough to absorb a hit from the hammer and slim enough to shimmer its way to your starter. While your turning your key over to start the motor, have your helper have the stick up against the starter and giving it a few whacks. If it kicks over then its your starter. Still sounds to me to be a starter!

Toyota camry starter solonid intermittent engage if ihit the starter motor with a hammer it starts what wrong ?

Hi:
As starters get old, they can bind up , and that hammer hit you did just broke it free. You need to replace your starter as an assembly, and you should be good to go.

Will not start. Get clicking noise. Battery is OK.

have someone hit the starter with a hammer while you attempt to start it. not hard enough to break it tho. if it starts... .replace the starter. also test the voltage of the battery when you attempt to start it.... if the voltage drops more then one or two volts you will need to replace the battery. perhaps try getting a boost to see if that works out

1991 chevy corsica XL intermittently wont start

I'm thinking you may have a bad starter. Have someone try to start it and at that time hit the starter on the side hard with a hammer. DO NOT HIT THE SOLENOID IT WILL BRAKE

Starter motor problem

Get an assistant. Have someone turn the key in an attempt to start the car. While they do this, position yourself underneath the car with a hammer. Whilst starting the car, hit the starter (not hard enough to dent it) with the hammer. If it starts, the starter was 'frozen' and should be replaced. If nothing happens, try taking the starter off and bringing it to a local parts store (autozone, pepboys, etc) and having it tested.
