My 2007 torrent only overheats when ac is on and I am idleing at a traffic light or stopped in a parking lot. when ac is turned off not overheating at all. the air also blows warm when this happens and the switch for normal vent in ..ac switches back and forth to max ac(recirculate cabin air). this happened last year around the same time, and we drained and replaced coolant that didn't correct the problem, then we were told it was the dual fans, which they lubed and they worked fine. Is this possibly a short and if so why does this keep happening? wonder if fans need to be replaced? could this be a fuse? how would I troubleshoot to figure out what this is besides taking to a mechanic? even so I would like to be informed myself. thanks for any help
Sensors......Water temp sensor, air flow temp sensor, MAP sensor, Idle speed control solenoid, throttle position sensor, O2 sensor.........
Engaging AC draws on power from your motor, resulting in the ECU having to compensate to keep revs stable. Increased revs result in increased air flow, water flow, fuel flow & exhaust emissions.
Check belts for your AC pump first, as the same belt may drive your water pump. If it slips under load when the AC is on, ..................... Say no more. Next replace Water temp sensor. No luck..... ISC solenoid....

add fluid, check hoses for leaks, replace thermostat, flush the radiator. if non of those, check radiator for cracks and leaks, and finally have heater core checked

you know the water pump for that particular car is on the other side? is driven by the cam... either your water pump is not working,(to remove water pump you need special tool) did you change the termostat? temp. sensor?

it could be that the radiator is blocked, try using a good radiator cleaner & see if that makes any difference.....cheers.

Check the Fan switch at the bottom of the radiator, if you disconnect it and have a power feed to the switch then it isn't a fuse.Bridge the terminals and if the fan comes on then the fault is probably the switch.

Probably need an automotive electrician to find out why the fans don't work. When AC is on, the AC fan should be on constantly. Coolant has to get quite hot for the regular radiator fan to come on, but sounds like the fans are the problem.
