When the roof was closing, there was a noise coming from the drivers side. I stopped its progress so I could check the tracks when I got home. I opened it fully to examine them and now it is stuck open. When I press the open/close button there is a clicking sound coming from the housing where the button is but the roof itself does not budge. I checked the fuse. Others have suggested disconnecting the battery. Have not tried that yet.

SOURCE: Sun Roof won't open
There may be a way to open the sunroof manually by turning the motor with a tool. The motor could be broken and "free spinning" or it could be off track or something is stuck in the track. You just need to take it apart starting with the interior trim the rest should be pretty self explanitory. You may also be able to find a diagram on www.autozone.com.

motor. But they'll sell you the whole assembly.
SOURCE: 1998 Camry. moon roof opened
I had the same problem on my '96. After exhausting all avenues, forums, DYI pages, etc., I learned the motor had to be disconnected, then the moon roof clossed manually. It is not airtight, but it doesn't leak. I plan to replace the motor in the spring. Wish me luck.
