You should not have to unless you somehow messed up a abs sensor or connection. A scan tool would reset it and see which sensor is triggering the light. Also drive it for a day to make sure it doesn't go off by itself. Also check the back of the calipers where the connection is.
Putting new brakes in will not enable you to reset your abs light. There is another problem. The abs light is in the wheel bearing. You need to replace a wheel bearing. Take car to auto zone and have them hook up their computer to your car to find out which bearing is bad.
