Have your emissions systems checked, it sounds like the computer is trying to kick up the idle so the engine won't die at low RPM because of either an emissions system failure or even just several cylinders performing poorly. A full shop diagnostic might save you hundreds later, because a problem like this almost always leads to failed parts, or even a blown motor, later.
Hi, i had same prob on my 95 c 1500 with 350 (5.7) mine was the throttle position sensor its on the right side of carb (throttle body injection) on mine think it was 20-30 dollars hope it works for u. Fishman out

I replaced the malfunctioning “thermal actuator” with the “Warn” Vacuum actuator setup, it’s been working great for about 7 years now, simple install, if I remember correctly, it was about $150.
That’s what engages the front diff into 4wd.

Find out why the engine light is coming on, it is the info u probably need to fix the running rough problem. Most auto parts stores will read the codes stored in your trucks computer for free, write them down, and ask what they mean and how to correct the problem. If u need more info, return to this site w/ codes for further help.

Is your 4x4 light coming on? Does the shifter move smoothly into position? I have a 95 that I have just about had every proplem imaginable. Need morre info. John.

if it is electronic there is probably something wrong with the wiring..
but if it is manual...it might be the actuator........
