Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Range / Performance
Number of Trips to Set Code: 1
Trouble Code Conditions:
EVAP vent valve stuck open: EVAP leak check pressure is lower than -0.14 kPa even if EVAP vent valve is operated from OFF (OPEN) to ON (CLOSE) with EVAP leak detection pump ON. EVAP vent valve stuck closed: EVAP leak check pressure is unstable (difference between maximum and minimum is 0.36 kPa or more) when EVAP vent valve is OFF (OPEN) with EVAP leak detection pump ON. EVAP leak detection pump stuck OFF: EVAP leak check pressure is higher than -0.14 kPa even if EVAP leak detection pump is ON. EVAP leak detection pump flow high: Reference pressure of EVAP leak check pressure is lower than specified value (depending on BARO) EVAP leak detection pump flow Low: Reference pressure of EVAP leak check pressure is higher than specified value (depending on BARO).
Possible Causes:

I went to AutoZone and got one of them free check with the code PO456 A Evap system very small leak detected. How do you think I should go about it?

id avoid the zone. but lucky for you, P0xxx codes they can handle.
P1xxx, P2xxx, or more they lie.
99% bad gas cap, or just loose.
tighten the cap, reset the codes, (bingo gone, you and millions of others) use scan tool to reset, or it takes bloody forever ....
if the cap is bad, replace it. if not?
the EVAP tests are complex. no car year stated. sadly.
the first test is the pressure leak down test, got shop Air.
i bet not.
if not, then look for cracked hoses. (fuel vent hoses)
Bty all shops can do the leak down test, and all smog stations
this is the 1st test off the line, EVAP leak down tests.
its a low tech test, easy but most dont even want to try.

here is the 1st google hit,

I got a check engine code P0455 AND P0171 on my 2003 volkswagen jetta. My car runs fine usually at idle, but if you start driving, you can only push it half throttle before it starts studdering. What

Trouble Code: P0171

Fuel System Too Lean (Cylinder Bank 1)
Possible Causes:

Air leaks after the MAF sensor, or leaks in the PCV system Exhaust leaks before or near where the HO2S is mounted Fuel injector(s) restricted or not supplying enough fuel. Fuel pump not supplying enough fuel during high fuel demand conditions. Leaking EGR gasket, or leaking EGR valve diaphragm. MAF sensor dirty (causes ECM to underestimate airflow). Vehicle running out of fuel or engine oil dip stick not seated .

Trouble Code: P0455

EVAP Control System Large Leak Detected
Possible Causes:

Aftermarket EVAP hardware non-conforming to specifications EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister purge outlet tube or EVAP return tube disconnected or cracked, or canister is damaged EVAP canister purge valve stuck closed, or canister damaged. Fuel filler cap missing, loose (not tightened) or the wrong part. Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP components . Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck open. Fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor has failed mechanically .Here are the solutions.

Obd code p0457 fuel cap replaced mil reset defect not cleared connection checked ok

The code is for a large leak in the EVAP system such as a loose or missing gas cap. But it could also mean a loose or missing hose to the canister or other leak in the tank.
The computer vents the tank several times an hour while the engine is running, and it checks the system by pressurizing the gas tank. If the tank will not hold pressure the code is set.
You may have to check the top of the tank where the fuel pump gasket is, as well as the vent lines to the front of the car.
A mechanic would perform a smoke test to look for leaks.

P0455 P0442 codes 2001 dodge ram 1500

P0442 Means you have a small leak in your EVAP system. P0455 is a large leak.
The EVAP system prevents gas vapors from entering the air .
This code can be set by a leak in the lines or a clogged charcoal canister.
Most common reason is If you did not put your gas cap on all the way.
Hope this helps

Mil comes on and has a code of p442. what does that mean

It means you have a leak in the EVAP system. Most likely the hoses near the charcoal canister. Check the EVAP hoses for cracks, and replace as necessary.

01 sonata gls v6...code po455, po442. what are these and how can I pass emissions test in arizona

If you have an EVAP leak, you will get the following codes:

1. P0442 evap emission control system leak (small).
2. P0455 evap emission control system leak (large).

If these codes come up, you need to trace the leak. The most common place for the systems to leak besides the gas cap is at the service port under the hood, the hoses at the purge solenoid, and the hoses around the fuel tank. Check all your EVAP hoses from under the hood , all the way back to the gas tank. You can repair a split hose easily. Buy some 14.5mm EVAP hose at the auto parts store. Just cut the split or cracked section out and attach the new hose.

I can only say that u must fix the code issue and light to pass state emission test, if u reset the light they will know, the system will tell the tester that the system is not ready, this will cause a fail.
