If you have your vehicle serviced at a quick change lube, they will push services like this to you, especially if your a woman. Jiffy Lube is notorious for doing this. Every automotive manufacturer will state in their warranty, if you do this, they will void the warranty simply because it will cause a major engine failure. Over time sludge and deposits build up in an engine, when you flush it, it breaks up these deposits and they settle in the oil pan. Even when you drain the oil and place a new oil filter on, some of these broken up deposits remain in the engine plugging up the oil lube ports. This stops oil from properly lubing vital parts inside the engine causing engine failure. Products like engine flush are known as snake oils in the automotive repair business. The best and safe way to stop sludge build up or remove it, is to use a good quality synthetic oil and quality oil filter. This will end your sludge problem over time. One more thing, avoid quick change lube centers, any of them no matter if it's EZ- Lube, Jiffy Lube, Wal-Mart and on and on. The people working there are not automotive techs, the have not went to collage or have a degree in automotive technology. No one with a degree in automotive technology is going to be working at a quick lube center for minimum wage, they will be working in a good independent service center or dealership making $22 or more per hour.
