How to replace trunk latch cable on 2001 prius

So, when somebody else pull the cable, do you see the latch move back and forward from the trunk? There is nothing complicated about a manual cable, it just pull the cable and there should be a reaction to it. If there is no action from the latch, no movement at all, then the cable is just broken. If there is a little movement, not enough to pull the latch to open the trunk, you still need to replace the cable.

Um, a Prius isn't supposed to start the engine when you switch it on. Only when it needs it....

emergency release should be in the trunk as for the closing of the trunk, you need to disconnect the cable at the trunk latch until you can get it fixed

i dont know how common , but i had a few with latch problems,both neede replacing, theres a spring that let go and wouldnt latch after shutting the trunk,and also had one that latched before the trunk was closed and all that need was to turn the key in the lock and pop latch back open,

Open trunk
Remove three bolts holding latch
Remove actuating cable.

you grab on the bottom of the seat and pull upward. it sucks putting it back on though lol.

It may just be the latch is worn out. They can be replaced.

You may have a secondary cable for that...It maybe located in the trunk, right behind the gas cap area..Your cable probaly popped or either strecthed out of it's original shape, so when you pull the latch, you get nothing to work...You can replace the cable, but it just might be better, if you do it manually...

It probably goes on the outside of the casing One end arond the cable to hold the latch against the cable
