The only "powered" wires behind the radio (in the radio harness) are constant battery power and switched ignition power.
Constant power is ORANGE
Switched Power is YELLOW

Check all the fuses, also under the hood, use a 12 volt test light, they are very cheap and avial at ay auto parts store, not sure what u did to the wires of the radio, but here is a diagram by color of what each wire does.

go to the starter and have someone hold the key in the engine crank position, then use that test light to see if 12 volts is reaching the starter solenoid, if it does replace the starter solenoid, if not you will have to have the security system tested, this may be locking the starter out, it is a very common fault on this car. None of the starter wiring runs near the radio, so I think this is coincidence

You are correct, if there is lights on the car but no start when you turn the key on, this is an issue with the starter solenoid. This will mean that you have to replace the assembly which may cost around 150-200 including repair. This is best done by a professional mechanic.
Now IF there are no lights on the car, as in all lights dead, you may want to try another battery to save you 3/4 of the cost of replacing a starter.

I tried to repair loose/ ratty radio wires and I heard a buzzing noise like I had shorted something. I checked every fuse I could locate in the car, especially looking for anything with "Starter" or "starter relay"; no bad fuses. Then tested starter and selenoid. Both are good (got starter to engage by connecting battery wire to selenoid lead on starter. Headkights are bright. Do you have free diagrams to check for a relay? Bob
Thankyou, Since none of the wire names seem to be related to the starter, it may be possible that some other wire was shorted. Do you have a description or diagram of the starter circuit with wire colors and routing? The starter is OK since current supplied directly to the selenoid on the starter causes it to work. Does this car have a starter relay, other fusing related to the starter circuit? I believe it is an automatic. (it is my daughter's car. Thanks, Bob
