This refers to the fuel being to lean, there may be a leak in a air intake pipe or the air filter has become dislodged , check also for a fuel leak , check for a worn vacuum pipr , get your self a workshop manual will give you step by step guide's, also try a fuel addative , get one that covers the catalytic convertor as well as the valves etc keep me posted if you wish

Does the 2007 hyundai accent GS hatchback have a "zero clearance" engine? if the timing belt breaks, will is cause severe damage to the engine?

No it will wipe out the valves.. usually all of the exhaust valves. Here is the interval for changing the timing belt on your Hyundai..
"Normal service replace every 60,000 miles or 48 months. Severe service replace every 40,000 miles or 48 months."

Check engine light on code reads p2096 what

Fuel trim too lean. Usually means vacuum leak. Look for crushed, broken or melted off vacuum hoses near intake manifold. Or an obvious hissing noise at a normal idle. If so replace or repair clear codes your done. If not obvious take carb cleaner spray with nozzle attached car running & go over all vacuum hoses, intake manifold, egr valve see if idle raises if so you found leak. Repair. Could also be bad oxygen sensor switching bad o2 sensor but rarely.

Had the 2007 hyundai accent for two years and all of a sudden its having trouble starting

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.
Go to www.hmaservice.com and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

Hyundai Accent performance

I might have a solution. I have the same problem. I just got an 09 accent and I think it is going to be a great project car to performance up but have problems finding parts because it is so new. I found a company that can help us with our problem. They are called KFX Performance, it is a specialty company for Korean aftermarket car parts. The only problem the representative told me, which you can get his info. on the website, is that they are having trouble bringing out the parts because I believe he said of either patent or demand problems. He did state that soon they are going to put the parts on sale. When I talked to him on the phone I stated that they would have plenty of people buying their parts because of the growing accent community, So do me a favor and help me spread the word so we can get some good parts going for this car, I am with you on the performance thing. The representative stated that in the future they are going to bring out the headers and possible turbo kit, I know nice. They offer headers now for a 1.6L engine but it is for the 06 Kia Rio. He told me to go to a Kia dealer and find out if the 06 Rio and the 09 accent share the same engine set up, if they do then I can be gold for a custom header job or I can just wait until they come out for the accent. He did state that just with their headers that they offer now you can get 9hp and if you get a high flow cat you can get another 9hp as well, very nice and with a AEM short ram intake that is a great start. Let me know what you think.
