My 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel lacks acceleration at times, when you first crank it up, when engine is cold the vehicle has lots of grey smoke. Then the grey smokes clears up, but when driving at times you can put the pedal on the floor, no power, then it will run fine, then does it again. I have replaced the fuel transfer pump, mine is located on the engine, not in the tank.

Then i think i'd be dumping some soapy water on the intake gaskets checking for leaks. ANd wiggle the **** out of all vacuum hoses. ( you probably did that) And if there aren't any, your cam could be tired. You got a tough one there. Hard to figure with a keyboard.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L,

The plenum problem should not affect compression tests. It allows oil to get sucked into the intake and will cause carbon buildup, plug fouling, and pinging. If you have zero compression on a cylinder, it is usually a valve problem. Even a burned piston will make some compression, unless it has a big hole in the middle.
Sorry, but if your compression results are to be trusted (and it seems they are), then you have to tear a head off to find the problem, or at least get a borescope in it.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge 2500 diesel oil leak in front of power

The power steering pump is piggie backed to the vacuum pump. The seal in the back of the vacuum pump has engin oil under presure behind it cousing a leak that gets worse over time. Cummins make a seal kit to fix this leak.

Just ran out of ruel with my diesel engine....are all engines equipped with an air bleed valve? My truck is 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel.

not all engine air equipped with thair bleed, inthat case you have to bleed each injector one at a time, you can do this by cracking open the line at the injector, but when you do this have someone ready to crank over the truck, when you see a soild stream come out close it and do the next one. do this to all of them the truck will fire right up.

2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel won't really accelerate unitl its warm

Man you have a lot of things to check out. You really need to start out by getting a computer scan done on your truck. Diesels are not what they use to be, and there are to many things to look at. My initial thoughts are that you have a bad injector, but if you are not mechanicaly skilled this is not a job for you. Please save your self the head ache and get the scan done by a reputable dealer or mechanic not the cheapo parts store. It could be anything from a dirty filter or line to a injector.

If you get the scan done and then its something you can do your self, go for it. I have told my friends if they want to buy a diesel, which I am not against at all. If they want me to work on them they have to buy the scanning tool for it because finding the problem takes for ever.

Once you get the scan done then let me know and I can help you more.

Truck fails to start

The 01 DuraMax trucks do not have a block heater, unless they were special ordered with one. Just turn the key to the on position a few times before you try to crank it, and hold the accelerator partially down while doing it. However, don't hold the accelerator if it starts to crank, it DOES need a minute to warm up before being revved. Also, use a diesel treatment when its cold, it helps a lot.
