How do you change ignition switch on mercedes r129 1998?

code p1570 refers to ignition switch control module/ECM-attempted theft/data bus/not compatible ===causes --wiring--connections--trouble codes stored in other system--ignition switch control module---ECM
If this is a recent problem I would suggest that the ignition switch module be checked/replaced.

Switch on ignition. Cycle left steering wheel buttons till mileage and trip are displayed. Press reset button ( left corner of instrument cluster ) for 3 seconds until reset message appears, release and press again within a few seconds and confirmation will appear on dash. switch off ignition.

one possibility could be the ignition switch itself also when you ordered the new key did they order a replacement key or an additional key. an additional key will work right away. a replacement key has to sit in the ignition switch for awhile before it can turn into the first position and then it will take awhile before it will turn to the second position. this is because the key and ignition switch use a rolling code type security system. it changes every time the car is started. so it could take awhile for the new key you got to syncronize with the ignition switch. hope this helped

switch on ignition wait some time till mileage appear on display then press and hold R button on you instrument cluster till make beep sound as soon as make beep sound release R button and read what display say you to do next ( will ask for confirm resting press R button again for 3 second) then say reset confirmed after that switch ignition and switch on and read new service.

Press and hold trip button while switching ignition on
After 10 seconds new service interval will be displayed +beep
Release trip button
Switch ignition off

have to be able to turn it 1 last time, turn to position 1 take 2 small rods, put in hole and pull assembly out by the key.

I guess all that's left is the ignition switch itself, or else the transmission is not completely going in to park. Next time it does it, try jamming it into park again, and see what happens. If no difference, change the ignition switch. Not the key and tumbler, the actual switch, which should be on your steering column, but given the fact that i am not that familiar with MB, suggest you ask at a parts place.

If you want to reset after oil change.
Switch ignition ON and immediately press button o [left of dash under +/-] Twice
Switch ignition OFF
Press and hold button o while switching ignition ON
After 10 seconds the new interval will appear with a beep
Release button
Switch ignition OFF
Reset done.

ignition switches are a known issue with this era mercedes. Not too difficult to change the ignition switch. Google is good source for pics, videos and instructions on this. Be aware that the switch is about $400 from the dealer. You could get one without matching key for alot cheaper if you dont care about that. Also, you can get one without the key lock for much cheaper if you are able to remove the key lock from your existing switch.
