I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban 1500 Z71 How do you remove the front driveshaft from the transfer case

1) Be certain the transmission is in neutral.
2) Be certain to mark where the driveshaft is on the yoke flange so it can be put back in the same location.
3) Cut the clamp on the dust boot and pull the boot back
4) Be sure again to mark where the drive shaft is to get it back in the exact location.
5) Remove the 4 bolts (11mm) on the driveshaft on the yoke end.
6) Pry back the shaft back from the yoke
7) Pull the shaft out of the transfer case.

Jeep grand Cherokee transmission tail shaft

is that joint right there a U-joint or CV? Anywho check for play at that joint, There may be a little at the slip yoke, where the tailshaft comes out of the transfer-case , but nowhere else should have any. If those joints are loose: replace U-joint While your under there you might as well check the front drive-shaft also.

2004 GMC Z71 1500 makes growling noise from tail of transmission while in 2wd or 4wd.

Is it a auto or manuel ****** , but either way it sounds like either the rear bushing is worn or the bearing or even possibly the u-joint .......

Vehicle shakes at 60 mph all wheels and struts replaced

Hello, Are the tires and wheels balanced? If they are balanced then check the drive shaft. This drive shaft transfer the power from the engine/auto transmission to the rear differential/rear wheel.
Now, on each end of the drive shaft is a flexible yoke, this splined yoke has a U-joint with four bearing cups. Two of the bearing cup is attached to the splined yoke and two are attached to the drive shaft. Now, on the rear differential end is a yoke but it has 4 bolts and nuts, it also will have a U-joint attached to the 4 bolted yoke and to other bearing cups attach to drive shaft. U-Joint is called "Universal Joint" Each U-joint has about 10 degree circular travel without any type of binding to the U-joints or the drive shaft.

Two things here. First, take a pry bar and wedge into the U-Joint and move the bar forwards, backwards, up and down. If the drive shafts moves in any direction and clanks. The u-joints need to be replaced and I would replace both of the U-joints. Secondly, if the U-joints aren't loose, then there is a good possibility that the drive shaft is out of balance. In other words, it has lost it small welded plats on the drive shaft and when you are drive you Chrysler the drive shaft is vibrating.

To replace the U-Joints and/or balance the drive shaft. You'll need to remove those 4 bolts and nuts on the differential yoke. Once the bolts are removed then push the drive shaft forward, it will slide forward. Now, under the transmission yoke place a pan/bucket/container to catch the transmission fluid that will drain out once the drive shaft is pull free from the transmission.

If you don't have a press, vise, brass 5 lb hammer, bushing, punches, then I would tackle this job of replacing these U-Joints. Without the proper tools, one can damage the U-joint yokes and the drive shaft. I wouldn't do this without the tools and experience. I use a cutting torch but I have been do it for 50+ years.

If the drive shaft is out of balance, then you will need to take to Drive Line Specialty Shop to have it balanced. Also, have them replace the U-Joints. They have all equipment to do this job. I wish you luck in your endeavor. GB....stewbison

TOOK BOLTS LOOSE ON DRIVE SHAFT LIKE YOU WOULD ON REAR ONE BUT FRONT DOESN'T PUSH IN AND COME OUT LIKE REAR. I'M TAKING TRANNY OUT TO REPLACE AND NEED TO GET SHAFT OFF.

IF IT'S REAR WHEEL DRIVE, YOU SHOULDN'T NEED TO REMOVE BOLTS ON FRONT! IT SHOULD SLIDE OUT OF THE TAIL SHAFT OF THE TRANNY! SOME ARE A LITTLE HARD TO REMOVE, BCUS OF THE LONG YOKE SHAFT ON THEM!

Need to know how to drop a drive shaft to tow the 1999 Lincoln to go from Fla to Texas

You need to jack the back end up and place it on jack stands. then make a paint mark on the driveshaft and the rear end yoke, so when you put it back in, it will be "match marked" to the same spot. This is for proper balance. Then just unbolt the Ujoint from the rear yoke. Be sure to wrap something around the joint o the caps don't fall off the universal joint. Once it is loose from the rear end you can slide it out of the transmission. I would suggest covering the hole in the tranny also for transport. Some transmission fluid might come out of the rear when you remove the driveshaft.

Leaking fluid from rear end

hello, fluid leaking out of rear end is probably the pinion shaft seal, its were the drive shaft hooks to the rearend, you have to drop drive shaft, take yoke off rearend, or if it is,more further towards the back, were wheels are, then you need axle shaft seal, you have one on both sides on the rearend, behind the drums, where the back brakes are, also look and see if its coming from back of transmission, where drive shaft goes into the transmission, see if you can tell what color fluid is, if its red, its probably rear transmission seal, where drive shaft goes into the transmission.

I need to replace mt tail shaft seal

Unbolt the drive shaft from the rear differential. Slid the driveshaft yoke out of the transmission tale stock. The seal is right there at the end of the transmission. Take a seal remover or a screw driver and remove the seal, it may be tough getting it out and if you damage it, it's not a problem just don't damage the housing. After it's out take a socket or I use an ABS pipe the same size as your seal and place the seal at the seal seat and tap it in lightly and evenly. put the drive shaft back in tail stock and bolt back onto the differential. Good luck
