The amber SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator is an alert to the driver whenever there are specific current codes stored in the BCM or in the event of a loss of Class 2 serial data.

The service engine soon could be an indicator that you need to have minor maintenance done in the near future. The service light means something is wrong with the car and it needs attention now. Get the codes checked and that will tell you what is wrong with it.

I have the same car and if the gas cap is loos for any reason the service engine light will come on so check that. If it is it will turn off in a few days after you tighten it.

Take your car to Kragen or a parts store like it and have the system tested for codes, also ask them to test your charging system for low voltage, all this is free.

99 - 04 grand am.

I had the "service vehicle soon" light come twice with in 1 year. First the heald light bulbs were gone. Replaced the head light bulbs and after 2 starts the "service vehicle soon" light was gone.

The second time the DRL - #194 amber bulbs were gone. Replaced these and the "service vehicle soon" light was gone after 2 starts. The DRLs are housed in the headlamp housing, the tiny bulbs beside the head light.
