01 Suburban battery draining

We are having trouble with something draining the battery. I have to jump it to get it started but the battery would go dead (sitting or running). I was told from the dealer I bought it from that it was just the ctsy lamps draining it cuz they didn't always turn off. I fixed that by replacing the relay for the ctsy lamps. However this didn't fix my problem. I seems to be draining the battery running or not and why won't the new battery charge?when it is running it shows it is charging 14 volts but when it is off (not running) It shows no voltage on the gauge We put a new battery in and also replaced the alternator. any suggestions?

Take it to an autosparky ......They will check to see if there is a drain on the battery.
cheapest and fastest option.

If you have a multimeter you can disconnect the negative lead on the battery , Set the multimeter to amps then connect one of the leads to the negative on the battery and the other to the negavtive lead.
Look at the multimeter and see what it reads , this will show if you have a drain and also how many amps the drain is drawing.Do Not Try Starting The Engine as it will fry your meter and leads!!!!!!!
Have you fitted a stereo , amp or someother third party device ?
    Check your negative(earth)connections.
Might not be the battery ......could be a lazy starter motor .
Let me know how you get on...

My 2001 Chevy Suburban won't start at times. I remove the cables from the battery and put them back on at it will start sometimes. Other times it requires a jump. It's random. I also noticed...

your battery is being drained ,, check the plug in for the towing light hook up , something is shorted across ,, clean and tighten all connections to the battery ,, once the vehicle is running,, check the posts with a meter, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if not your alternator isn't doing its job

Suburban won't start, bought a new battery but does no thing, when jump started it stays running until it is shut off and will not start again

If you can jump start it and it stays running....I am assuming that you connect the Jumper Cable Ground to something other than your battery. If so, Your negative battery cable is suspect. Check both ends for ANY corrosion or loose connections.

2003 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L 4-cyl is having trouble holding a charge on the battery. Tests say battery and alternator is OK. I checked fuses and they were good. I can jump the car but after I drive it...

Most likely you have something draining the battery. Quick way to tell, disconnect the ground (negative) cable to the battery, let it sit for a few hours, then reconnect it and try to start it. If it starts OK, you know the battery is holding a charge, but something is draining it.
To drain it in just a few hours requires a serious draw, like headlights or the cooling fan. It is possible that your cooling fan (behind the radiator) is staying on all the time. Often they are controlled by a thermostat, and will run for a few minutes after you shut off the engine, but it should shut off within about five minutes. If it is still running after ten or more minutes, you have a bad fan thermostat or a bad fan relay. If that is not the problem, you will have to get someone with an ammeter to measure the current draw, and start pulling fuses until you find the culprit.

Our 1995 GMC Suburban that isnt holding a charge

Several mechanics have looked at it, but has any automotive electricians......

what you have (sounds like) is a current drain.....what you need to do is disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and place a mutimeter in parallel,...(one lead on negative post on battery, and one lead on negative lead)...and set to current reading...it should be 0.05 amps or less...it will jump high first but will settle down.....if it is higher than this amount after a minute, something is causing a drain...

Now I have found that it could be something as a glovebox light not turning off when you close the glovebox, or interior somewhere....or it could actually be the alarm after all......

if you do find a drain, start pulling fuses to determine what might be causing it, if you pull a fuse out and the current goes from 1.2A, down to 0.05A, then you know which circuit could be at fault......

I hope this helps
