The drivers side temperature slide control on my 2004 Buick Century is acting up. If I lightly push in on the slider, it works fine, but stops working as soon as I lift off my finger. It seems to me that the slider isn't making good contact inside the controller. How do I access the climate control panel so I can repair or replace the slide controller?

the panel just pops out it has clips holding it in, you might want to pull the side panel off just in case there is a 7mm screw holding it in but that should only be for the radio removal, i have a question for you, how did you replace that actuator and did that solve your problem, my car does the same thing and i already replaced the switch, and te climate control panel, thanks.

the problem is a part called the air temperature control blend door acuator motor, it is deep inside the dash and the dash must be removed to replace it.

That means you have two heater bypass control valves, one for passenger
side and one for driver side. if mechanical incline one can do it self,
not easy. It behind the dash near the radio position. The valves is not
expensive, under 20 dollars, fix it yourself will be the task. the labor
what will get you. the valve function is allowing your hot water to
flow through evaporator core just as cold air flow through it just like
your valve on your water faucett at home. The switch is prob. broken and
need to be replace or the control valve could be sticking and not
moving the valve. heat bond rubber to metal.
The dual climate control system uses 2 temperature
valve actuators. One for the driver's side and one for the passenger
side. Because the passenger side is OK you can rule out other causes
such as the in-vehicle temperature sensor, outside air temp. sensor,
solar sensor and compressor/evaporative system.
Here is the basic operation: The actuators turn and move temperature
valves in the A/C heater control module to obtain correct blend of
heated air from the heater and cooled air from the A/C evaporator. Therefore, there are two possibilities left. The left temperature valve
actuator or the HVAC head unit itself with the controls and control
module.
Hope helps. Good luck.
