It is on the left side hard to spot. Look below the heater hoses. Good luck, take your time and have a great day.

1990 subaru band adjustment for automatic transmission

  1. Hello, I've dealt with two of these (Loyales) with auto trannys, and when they began to slip or lose gears, that was it! I finally did an auto-manual conversion on one...not too bad really, but you have to have the manual pedal board and the plugs don't match so I lost back-up lights. The other, I had the tranny rebuilt and it failed within 3 months. As far as I know, there is no way to tighten the bands.

My car is slow to engage drive

i am guessing your car is an automatic. i would think you are low on transmission fluid and the auto probably needs a service to change the filter adjust the bands and renew the oil.

My 1994 Subaru Legacy Touring (Turbo) Wagon is not shifting properly when taking off. It does not shift until 3500 rpm at 20 mph. The initial shift should be around 2000 rpm. All other gears seem...

Hi,
The 1st>>2nd shift on the Subaru 4EAT automatic transmission can be more abrupt, but 3500 is too high.
Is there any delay when shifting from Park to Drive?
Does the Power light flash on startup? If it does, you can pull the codes by following these instructions.

This trans has 'bands' that can be adjusted. I'm not 100% sure they affect the 1st>2nd gear shift, but maybe they need adjusted.

Take a look @ ultimatesubaru.org/forum and http://bbs.legacycentral.org. 2 sites dedicated to Subarus.

Good luck,
Td

If I'm going to try and replace the clutch on my 2000 Legacy GT Limited with 122k on it and I'm a beginner when it comes to car repair, what book/repair guide would you suggest? I have a friend...

I would get either a Chilton's or Clymer manual for Subaru Legacy that includes your year model. You can get them at most auto parts stores and they are very helpful.

Subaru legacy 4eat issue...

Check that the Duty Solenoid B is good. Diagnostic may indicate a code 12. Easy to replace. Solenoid is on valve body next to filter. Must drop pan and should be right there. Call Subaru dealer with your VIN number and they can verify. Price is about $150 to purchase over dealer parts counter.
