How long does it take
SOURCE: Harmonic Balancer
I have had the balancers come off just by unbolting it, and popping it off with a pry bar. Other times, I have used 2 pry bars, each behind the pulley, and popped it off. A few times, I have had to get out the puller. Just depends how long the balancer was on, and how rusty it is. But, they are not so tight that a puller will not do the job. Try the 2 pry bars, that usually works. Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa. The graciousness of a FixYa rating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

4. REMOVE ENGINE BALANCER
(a) Uniformly loosen and remove the 6 bolts in several
passes, in the sequence shown.
(b) Remove the engine balancer and spacers
5. CHECK CONNECTING ROD THRUST CLEARANCE
Using a dial indicator, measure the thrust clearance
while moving the connecting rod back and forth.
Standard thrust clearance:
0.160 − 0.312 mm (0.0063 − 0.0123 in.)
Maximum thrust clearance:
0.35 mm (0.0138 in.)
If the thrust clearance is greater than maximum, re−
place the connecting rod assembly. If necessary, re−
place the crankshaft.
6. REMOVE CONNECTING ROD CAPS AND CHECK
OIL CLEARANCE
(a) Check the matchmarks on the connecting rod and cap
to ensure correct reassembly.
(b) Remove the 2 connecting rod cap nuts.
(c) Using a plastic−faced hammer, lightly tap the con
necting rod bolts and lift off the connecting rod cap.
HINT: Keep the lower bearing inserted with the con
necting rod cap.

Hi:
Those bolts can be extremely tight, and the hardest part is holding the engine from turning. You often need a impact gun, or breaker bar, and I have had good success holding the engine with a chain type wrench, and protected the outside of the damper pulley with a piece of old belt.
