1988 Dodge Dakota
are you sure this is the car? 1988?
this car had 5 different engine options and ECU. to match them.

the PCM (or old ECU) has 1 pin, that is called memory.
this pin is hot at all time, battery not dead, or disconnected.
its not like todays car, which have complex learn modes, this is 88 year , the first years of EFI (usa cars)
why not ask the question from a symptom perspective or state the concern.
This memory stores the DTC errors, and short and long term fuel trim.
nothing complex here. just basics.

now ill answer from inside the ECU.
the chip that does this is CMOS, NV RAM.
it is a memory chip. (off the shelf) and is held at 12vdc key off by a single external pin.

login to ALLDATA.com

see 2.5L see pin A41 , that is the memory pin. a red wire.
if not 2.5L then please say what you have (under dah, hood)
and what is wrong.? "symptoms"

How to fix a p0603 code on a 2003 honda elament?

code p 0603 refers to engine control module (ECM)--KAM error ( KAM= keep alive memory)===causes faulty ECM
also it refers to system voltage ---malfunction===causes --wiring --poor connections battery -- alternator
to start , have the battery load tested, then have the charging circuit checked fully , and check to see if the voltage regulator is part of the ECM
if it is replace the ECM

P0603 PCM "keep alive memory". Can you Reset it or is there a part you have to buy?

code p 0603 refers to engine control module (ECM)-KAM error=====causes ECM
it also refers to system voltage ---malfunction==== causes ---wiring---poor connection,---battery---alternator
Having this information to hand , I would start by checking the battery terminals are shiny clean and tight, have the battery load tested to check for internal failure and the alternator bench tested to ensure operation is correct
After that I would substitute the ECM with a known good unit
Remember that some vehicles have the regulator in the circuit of the ECM and if that was faulty , you would get the faulty ECM code as well

Failed ecm p0603

Instead of guessing as to what the problem is or expecting someone on here having a magical fix , take it to a qualified repair shop. Before assuming the worst an wanting to condem the PCM - powertrain control module . Will a scan tool communicate with it ? If your pulling codes it is .
DTC P0603 Control Module Long Term Memory Reset
The PCM has a memory area where it stores certain data it needs to save when the key is turned OFF. This area is called Keep Alive Memory. This diagnostic test monitors the PCM's keep alive memory for a loss or unintended change of data. If such a condition occurs, DTC P0603 will set.
Diagnostic Aids
If the battery has been disconnected for any reason DTC P0603 will set. The PCM keeps a running check on the memory; if memory changes it resets. An intermittent loss of power or ground to the PCM will cause a reset.

Have you disconnected the battery ?

I have a suzuki jimny 2002 and get check engine light on and code P1600 an P0763 and when the switch is on i hear the relay on the TCM. can you suggest?

P0763 - Shift Solenoid C Electrical
Possible causes- Faulty shift solenoid C valve
- Shift solenoid C valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid C valve circuit is open or shorted
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
When is the code detected? The P0763 code is detected when the gear required by the ECM does not match the actual gear when vehicle is driven.Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Transmission will not shift gears.P0763 Description Shift solenoid valve C is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position.

P1600 - Loss of KAM (Keep Alive ECM memory) Power; Open Circuit

Check all fuses related to the ECM

Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM)

P0603 means Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error

In other words, that code is set when the PCM loses "keep alive" memory B+.

This code can also be set if the batteries went dead at some point, but mainly it means there is an open circuit detected in the KAM circuit.

On a '97 F-250, check for a 5 amp fuse blown in fuse cavity #2. If the fuse is blown, check for and repair the short-to-ground in circuit #729 (red with white coloured wire).

Good luck dear.
